hogmaw
This might be a dumb question, but the auto gearbox is 4 gears, right? So why is it, when cruising over 100mph, the revs go down and there appears to be a change up from 4th to like a 5th gear? Or am I just wrong? dude
Have you felt it go from 3rd to 4th ???? if so you may have a prob with it locking !!!! Dude:flame Dev
hogmaw
It's not in 3rd when I'm over a 100, I would certainly know about that. What speed would I expect 3rd gear to redline at anyway if accelerating steadily? It's like at 110-120ish, suddenly the revs dip as if I moved up a gear. geoffvalenti
Its the torque converter going into lockup, most modern auto boxes do it for economy, although you should be able to notice it happening most of the time when cruising with light throttle in 4th, (overdrive) not just over 100 mph. If you just press the throttle, any more than a small amount, it should come out of lockup straight away, it feels a bit like a kick down half a gear IYSWIM. Well, 3rd redlines at 120, but if your not accellerating hard then it will obviously change up before then.

Curiosity assuaged. It is a very reassuring and good feeling when you're travelling that fast to hear the engine just go into 'amble' mode as if you're just idling along or something
