Hi all

Havent been on much all year.

My mum hasnt been well.

Anyway the other day my drivers side window winder gave up.

On inspection its the wire cable that has snapped.

all the rest of the mechanism seems fine.

Has anyone ever "recabled" the winder before. If so how did you do it?

I really dont have the funds to buy a whole new mechanism right now

any/all advice greatly appreciated

John

I did mine with some bike cables from Halfords.

You will have to make the cables to a specific length which means you have to fit a new termination on the end after cutting it to length.

I had some terminations made on a lathe and I used a small grub screw to hold them tight on the cable.

You can buy terminations which are crimped onto the cables if you do a search on google. I'm not sure how well they'll hold if you don't crimp them with the correct tool which isn't cheap.

Hopefully you can remember the lengths you cut them...............;)

been eyeing up the gear change cables on the kids bicycles ( old ones of course) they dont seem as strong as the supra cables.

bike cables are single strands wound many times.....car ones are many fine strands wound to form threads and these in turn wound to form cables.. same thickness but seem much stronger...........but beggars cant be choosers..........is it possible to get the old colletts off and reinstall on the new ones

many thanks

everything seems to point to a new winder assembly.

Not wort spending a whole day (for me) trying to cobble together a makeshift fix when a brand new one is roughly about €100.00 and can be installed in less than 2 hours. what a bloody waste though.

Can any traders here supply one new drivers side window winder assembly delivered to dublin in a hurry

please pm prices if possible.

Many thanks

John
