HedgehogSandwich adi
On looking at my cat i removed the other day, half of it is completely burnt out and melted. What would cause this? I had a feeling it might have been burnt out for some time....could it have been my dogy optimax episode (killed three of my plugs) Cheers adi
Digsy
Have you been misfiring?
HedgehogSandwich adi
I was misfiring badly on high boost after filling with optimax a while back, for around 100 miles or so. Im thinking this is when it may have happened.
Gareth Davies
One presumes if he lost 3 plugs he would have at some point or another. I had a bad set of misfire yesterday (caused by my half finished RLTC install). How bad / quickly does it damage the engine? Probably had to limp it home over a mile with a constant misfire

Ok Gareth, I walked into that one! :-) (Actually I didn't know if he meant the plugs were completely sh*gged out, or they just looked dodgy upon removal). Catalysts don't like misfire. I think it has something to do with unburnt fuel entering the exhaust system. It may only apply to close-coupled catalysts which are near to the exhaust manifold. I'll have a chat to some of our development guys to find out how tolerant they are. Apart from cats, misfire (in excess - lots of cylinders for a long time) will "wash" the cylinder bores with fuel, causing accellerated wear, and if any fuel gets beyond the piston rings you can get a degree of oil dillution. Gareth Davies
Thanks Darren, I think that makes me feel a little better I don't have any cats (well I think) so at least I couldn't have damaged them. Sounded a bit rough though...
HedgehogSandwich adi
Mine wasn't *badly* misfiring until on high boost, then it was spluttering. It ran fine on lower revs. Three of my plugs were badly fouled.
