Cosworth supply JUN, but won't cut Jun out of the middle.

JUN are a really nice company to deal with and many people rave about their good service levels.

If you really want to source some made in the UK you'll have to get a custom set created...which would possibly be extreamely expensive.

I'd go to Jun, mail them direct for a quote and get it sorted...they are very English orientated and easy to do business with from what I've heard.

Wish I had the money to buy their kit...just found out my front tyres are bald on the inside....DOH!!!

Toyota probably list oversize stock (cast) pistons, but if you want something better then it has to be the Cosworth made ones from JUN USA or JUN Japan. Don't even THINK of buying US made pistons, they are invariably boat anchors from some huge V8 forging. Only 3 firms make PROPER pistons, Cosworth, Omega (both in the UK) and Mahle in Germany.

I seem to be US bashing again, but sorry, they just don't make proper light forged pistons...

The JE ones from the US are OK ( Sorry CW). I know a few people running them with no problem. Buy the ones from Power House Racing though as they are built to a higher spec.

Weigh them, then weigh the Cossie ones and cry. Check the bore clearance the JE ones need, then the Cosssie ones, should be weeping buckets by then

Chris, If you are willing to donate some Cosworth pistons then I'll gladly weigh them against the JE's;-)

Have you actually done this?

The JE win hands down cost wise. I am not saying they are the best, but they are not bad.

I have used them in the 3SGTE engines and as usual for Cossie, they were beautiful units. My experience with US pistons is all bad. JE, Arias and Wiseco are all HEAV and made of an alloy with a big rate of thermal expansion, hence they need big bore cearances which doesn't help ring seal. They often come with Spirolox retaining clips, and these wear the holes oval and come out, some Arias ones scrapped a fresh Cossie engine I did within several hours running (race engine).

Given that a Supra engine build is going to cost a packet anyway I think the extra cost of the Cossie ones is worth it. But yes, they are fairly dear, but not excessively so compared to some race pistons. I also agree that JE are better than other US ones, probably on a par with Wiseco. I consider Arias ones to be dire, myself.

We'll see how long the hold together:eek:

They are defintely lighter than the HKS ones:D

If it ever goes bang I'll use Jun pistons & rods.

roughly how much are the cosworth pistons (per set). they they come will all the bits and bobs, ie rings, seals, bearings or do you have to buy al them as well? do they fit the standard crankshaft or do you need it machining to match ?

Out of curisity how much overbore can you go to on a supra before you go to far with what the ecu can cope with ?

cheers

Neil.
