Alex
I might write to McLaren and ask for my bet stake back Think they'll only be able to give you a credit note for now
colsoop
I don't see why they have any kind of limits on the cars. Perhaps limit the horsepower and the wieight but leave it open to them after that. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how each team impliments their designs and who performs best. neil tt
I didn't think the info went that far, not sure what I think anymore, or if I even want to watch it for the rest of the season:(

ivan
FIA reasons for the punishment: http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_2728560,00.html Looks fairly damning. If I were Ron Dennis I'd be looking at slapping Alonso and de la Rosa with very heavy fines for using information they knew to be illegal. merckx
Mike Couglan, McLarens chief designer was in possession of a 600 page document received from Ferrari's Nigel Stepney. Pedro de la Rosa was also receiving Ferrari design data from their chief designer Nigel Stepney , Alonso was aware of this and had communications with de La Rosa. It looks like Ron Dennis was totally unaware of what was happening behind his back.

IMO, DLR and Alonso were working together to try to get an edge on Hamilton (hence his not being copied in on their emails). They, together with Coughlan and any of their engineers involved are the truly guilty parties. I doubt that McLaren senior staff were even aware of the internal plotting... merckx
De La Rosa was getting the info via Coughlan. Yep, my mistake. IMO, DLR and Alonso were working together to try to get an edge on Hamilton (hence his not being copied in on their emails). I'm not sure how they could do this with design information they received as it would be used on both cars. They did receive information on when Raikonnen would do some pit stops though. I feel sorry for Ron Dennis. I'm looking forward to hearing more tomorrow during qualifying.
Alex
Alonso and DLR were mainly interested AFAIK in getting the Bridgestone tyres to work better. One thing they found out was that Ferrari don't use normal gasses to inflate them, I'd love to know what they are using, I had assumed it would be nitrogen or argon or another inert gas (sorry chemistry isn't my strong point)...and I'd assume all the teams have tried all the gasses out there to see how they perform? Maybe they're using Helium lol
neil tt
The eviedence seems to get worse, and I do hope that Mr Dennis didn't know it was going on it would make me feel a little better:(

colsoop
Alonso is a little bloody Baby. he basically told Ron that if he wasn't made the no1 driver he would give the info he has to the FIA. Artists impression attached :

Artists impression attached : nice col, surley they have to off load alonso and pdr. It would be soo great to see ron keep alonso there for the rest of his contract and fook up his career, but that wont happen rons a winner and wont let a crunt like alonso be better than him. imi
De La Rosa was getting the info via Coughlan. IMO, DLR and Alonso were working together to try to get an edge on Hamilton (hence his not being copied in on their emails). They, together with Coughlan and any of their engineers involved are the truly guilty parties. I doubt that McLaren senior staff were even aware of the internal plotting... Its a shame to see that Alonso and De La Rosa were using the info to better setup their car without the knowledge of senior management (If the mechanics knew that they were using external info, then again, they should have informed Ron). So in a way, the buck does stop with senior mngt and hence their responsibility which I agree.. Having said that, this kind of info "sharing" is so damn common in F1, what is the big deal? If the tables were turned and Ferrari were the culprit, there would hardly be any action against them. Thats whats sick about F1 >>>> the FIA and Ferrari are in bed together and Ferrair like being on top. And to be honest, if they are CONVINCED that McLaren were in the wrong, then ban them from both drivers and constructors championship (AND I AM A McLAREN FAN)......they simply dont have the balls to do that as it would be so damaging to the sport. So it isnt about the letter of the law now is it....it simply about creating a distraction and using an escape goat to divert all attention away from Ferrari being cheats and giving Ferrari all the advantage to win both championships. ivan
In a further twist, it looks as if the FIA have cocked up and allowed F1 secrets, including some of the info McLaren are supposed to have stolen, out on the internet. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/20/formula_one_sensitive_transcript_exposed/
