Homer
I've been on a bit of a weight loss plan for a few weeks now, but am struggling to find interesting (and tasty) low fat meals that keep me away from craving KFC, Indian and Chinese take aways A few of the meals I've tried and like are: - Tuna sandwich: 1/2can tuna, two slices of whole-wheat bread, small amount of chopped onions with tiny amount of ultra low fat mayo - Pasta: 3/4 tin of tinned tomatoes, 1 clove garlic, 1 onion & 200g pasta - Chicken & veg: 150g chicken breast, 70g broccoli, 70g cauliflower, 70g carrot - all steamed - Fish, as above^ I really like cooking at home but am struggling to find decent low calorie/low fat food that settle the urge for take away food... any suggestions please? BTW, though the above diet has lost me 22 pounds in the last 5 weeks (combined with cardio exercise) the urge to eat something fried is getting greater by the day! I really don't want to break out of this sort of living so hope to find something to replace the take-away urge! Edited - I was 244lbs originally. For a 6ft bloke thats 34% bodyfat

Homer
I could lend you my thyroid for a few days? That’s kind of you, but it's not really practical BTW, I was like you until I got a WFH job at 20 I was 150 pounds!
RobSheffield
Why not make your own takeaway food using lean meat and not frying stuff. Be careful on the amounts too, takeaway chinese for example if you order it you always get loads as you are hungry, if you keep yourself to sensible portions you ought to be ok
Angarak
When your feeling hungry, drink lots of water to make you feel full. I just dropped 10lbs in 4.5 days on Lipotrim (water-based shakes/soups) and bottled water...just in time for the start of Basketball season
Homer
Why not make your own takeaway food using lean meat and not frying stuff. Thats sort of the problem and the reason for the thread. I can't seem to find decent alternatives to take away food. I can't use any red meat due a medical condition that caused me to gain 3 stone over the last 2 years (darn NHS ). Though my current diet is allowing me to lose weight bit by bit, I'd love to have to tasty meals to cook that don't have massive calorific or fat content

RobSheffield
Home made Chicken and rice type thing perhaps, its not going to be the same as a take-away, for one it will cost lots less and taste nicer! Lean chicken, some rice (boil in bag perhaps) and maybe add some soy sauce or perhaps sweet n sour. Each takeaway meal can have a low calorie home made alternative. Homer
When your feeling hungry, drink lots of water to make you feel full. Thanks mate, but I'm already doing that I drink between 7 and 10 pints of water per day and know this is essential to losing weight. It really does work to reduce the food cravings, though it's not helping the urge for high fat food of the take away variety!
bmx1lew
what job do you do, carbs are the killer's, your body becomes addicted to carbs and you over dose your body on energy so you start to store food rather then burn, best thing is to reduce your carb intake, ie no bread, pasta or potatoes, if some one tells you to eat more fruit tell them to eat more sugar, thats what fruit is, go easy on fruit as high in sugar and again to large of energy sorce, on a morning have a small bowl of porridge with honey and 1 boiled egg that will give you slow releasing energy and will fill you right up, also not to bad as your body can handle it unlike most carbs, you MUST have break fast you need to start your metabolism up in order to start burning, round 12 or 1 eat a health meal doesn't have to be large but force your self on small portions to shrink your stomach after about 1 week your stomach will shrink and you will only eat a small amount and will feel full, come tea time eat a full healthy dinner like a Sunday roast, stay off potatoes, it will be hard at first but after 6 weeks you will be so used to not eating like you did before so you will automatically change your eating habits and get into a routine... i eat salad every day but not like your normal salad i will get a pic tomorrow, today i had the usual green bits, with steak in cream pepper source, with brea cheese, olives pepperoni salami, sun dried tomatoes, motsorella, sliced chilli's, for my breakfast i had 1 pint of milk, fruit bar and for my tea i had 2 cod fishes. if you drop your carbs right down you wont need to worry about fat intake as much but best to watch your saturated fats, as for exercise remember 30 mins power walking is better then running thats all you need, or get a rowing machine they work wonders or even running up and down your stairs untill tired, i dont exercise my only form is i power walk to and from my bus for work, i time my self , get out at 5.30 and it is a uphill walk to the station my bus leaves at 5:39 when i first started i had to get the later bus as i would miss it by about 2 mins, now from power walking i can get there by 5:35, a massive differents. and have rebuilt strength in my ankle as very weak due to snapping, also i do 6 storeys of stairs 3x a day i jog up them, when i first started i would get to the top and be tired now im just a slight bit out of breath.. but little things light that can go a long way and i can assure you weight hass dropped off me, i went from been a big lad and if you saw me you would never think it, i was always wanting to be skinny... now i hate it all my biking muscle has disappear and i honestly feel sick when i look at my arms and i see bone however i have orded a multi gym and im going to switch to a high mixed protein diet and start bulking up lol lucky for my mucsel memmory is good due to 5 year's bmx. Jspec Germany
Homer, that's outstanding progress man. I'm proud of you. Keep up with what you're currently eating and I will give you a new recipe every few days. Fish, Chicken, veggies, and brown rice is the way to go. No portion larger than your fist, try to eat Complex carbohydrates earlier in the day, but I'm sure you already know that. Avoid sugar, sodas, alcohol, and anything white other than cauliflower, daichon radish, and seafood. Wanna kick any meal up a notch? Grind up 2 tomatos, add one clove of ground up Garlic or one teaspoon of curry/chili powder and a pinch of black pepper, stir,.... consume. Hard Boiled Egg whites, a pinch of parmesan, some black pepper, chopped red/yellow peppers, and grilled onions in non-fat cooking spray. Serve open face on a piece of toasted whole-wheat bread. Hope this helps and keep up the hard work. It's so worth it.

Yep, agree with you all the way Rob. I'm not a big fan of processed food when it comes to my own kicthen (which is contradictory to the revious take-away living I know!). I'm generally staying away from rice and pasta right now due to the weight loss, though allow pasta once a week. what job do you do, carbs are the killer's, your body becomes addicted to carbs and you over dose your body on energy so you start to store food rather then burn, best thing is to reduce your carb intake, ie no bread, pasta or potatoes, if some one tells you to eat more fruit tell them to eat more sugar, thats what fruit is, go easy on fruit as high in sugar and again to large of energy sorce, on a morning have a small bowl of porridge with honey and 1 boiled egg that will give you slow releasing energy and will fill you right up, also not to bad as your body can handle it unlike most carbs, you MUST have break fast you need to start your metabolism up in order to start burning, round 12 or 1 eat a health meal doesn't have to be large but force your self on small portions to shrink your stomach after about 1 week your stomach will shrink and you will only eat a small amount and will feel full, come tea time eat a full healthy dinner like a Sunday roast, stay off potatoes, it will be hard at first but after 6 weeks you will be so used to not eating like you did before so you will automatically change your eating habits and get into a routine... i eat salad every day but not like your normal salad i will get a pic tomorrow, today i had the usual green bits, with steak in cream pepper source, with brea cheese, olives pepperoni salami, sun dried tomatoes, motsorella, sliced chilli's, for my breakfast i had 1 pint of milk, fruit bar and for my tea i had 2 cod fishes. if you drop your carbs right down you wont need to worry about fat intake as much but best to watch your saturated fats, as for exercise remember 30 mins power walking is better then running thats all you need, or get a rowing machine they work wonders or even running up and down your stairs untill tired, i dont exercise my only form is i power walk to and from my bus at work, i time my self i get out at 5.30 and it is a uphill walk to the station my bus leaves at 5:39 when i first started i had to get the later bus now from power walking i can get there by 5:35 and have rebuilt strength in my ankle as very weak due to snapping, also i do 6 storeys of stairs 3x a day i jog up them, when i first started i would get to the top and be tired now im just a slight bit out of breath.. but little things light that can go a long way and i can assure you weight is dropped off me, i went from been a big lad and if you saw me you would never think it, i was always wanting to be skinny... now i hate it all my biking muscle has disappear and i honestly feel sick when i look at my arms and see bone however i have orded a multi gym and im going to switch to a high mixed protein diet and start bulking up lol Thanks for detailed reply, much appreciated My job is a work from home one which basically involves me sitting on a chair from 9am to 7pm, with no real break. Until recently the evening generally involves sitting on a sofa from 7pm to 2am again without doing much else. Weekends are a different matter but generally involve drinking beer and eating unhealthy things. Diet wise I'm trying for as many small meals as possible during the day. Breakfast is a high fibre cereal Mid morning is an apple or other fruit snack Lunch is a 1/2 can tuna & wholewheat bread Mid afternoon is 1/2can tuna *40-50 mins moderate cardio on exercise bike* Dinner is 150g chicken or fish and 200g veg supper is 50g celery & occasional cottage cheese (low fat) I enjoy these meals, but at dinner time (7-9pm for me) I get huge cravings for take-aways. I'd just like something that is more tasty and will help kill those cravings for that sort of food I must add that I've previously been pretty large in muscle bulk (15st lean mass 4 years ago), but after my problem a few years ago it turned to fat in litterally a few months. I know how to bulk, but losing (masses) of fat is a new thing to me

Bob
Check out some Thai recipes, mostly very healthy and very tasty. You'll soon be craving chilli instead of salt and fat. - but go easy on the coconut milk, it contains lots of saturated fats (unless you get the light stuff, but that's too watery imho!) Burna
Well done Homer it's sounds as if you are on the right track with what you are doing mate. Only tip I would give is the same as bmx1lew said which is cut the size of your meals right down, I've been doing this for the last 2 months and feel great. I used to eat big meals every night of the week, I would constantly feel uncomfortably full after and would eat rennie by the truck load Since cutting down my stomach has shrunk so my body is used to it and I just eat now when I'm hungry (which is a lot less). I still pretty much eat what I want including take aways, but what I do now when I'm full is STOP instead of just forcing myself to finish a meal and make myself ill just because I didn't like to waste food. I couldn't tell you how much weight I've lost over the past two months as I don't own any scales, but I have gone from a 40" waist to a 34/36" and I'm still loosing My belly has nearly all gone, just need to shift the remainder of the puppy fat so I think some exercise may be needed if my body doesn't naturally loose the last bit. Keep at it mate, you will feel so much better when you really start to see a difference. I can see us both now at the next meet holding up are old jeans shouting "This was me, Barry Bethall"
tbourner
Home made Chicken and rice type thing perhaps, its not going to be the same as a take-away, for one it will cost lots less and taste nicer! You are joking? There's no way a home made chinese will taste nicer than a takeaway - if you believe that, you need to go to a new takeaway!! but what I do now when I'm full is STOP instead of just forcing myself to finish a meal and make myself ill just because I didn't like to waste food. This is my problem, I've got to allow myself to throw away the last bits when I'm full!! I even finish other peoples food!!! You seem to be doing well though Homes, I wish I had your will power.
