Chris Wilson
ONLY of use or interest to those running serious lift cams at high RPM's. I have now developed a way of converting the MKIV Supra to lightweight lifters with small shims atop the valve stems. it's NOT a cheap conversion as it's labour intensive. But is a useful mod for serious engines. I will only convert customers heads, I won't be selling just the kits for now.
CJ
Chris - What would you consider to be "serious" lift?
Chris Wilson
11.5 mm plus. Serious to *ME* means 13mm plus!
Wez
Whats the highest RPM you would push a 2JZ-GTE too Chris?
Chris Wilson
On a stock bottom end 7250 sounds enough for me for short durations to me. It's a long stroke old thing, you need to look at lighter pistons, steel crank and rods if you want to turn many more revs. The stock engine doesn't make much power over 6000 anyway, so there's no point in revving it too hard. A decent bottom end and a top end and intake that can make use of it should be able to turn 8000 plus RPM, a bit more for short durations. A 1JZ-GTE should turn 9,500 with a proper bottom end, as it's a lot shorter stroke. The problem with the stock biscuits atop the followers is high lift cams can flirt them out, and they are very heavy.
