Tubby broke on Rover!

Just spoke to a guy who's selling a cheap Rover 400 Diesel turbo.

Thing is that he said it needs a new turbo, but apart from that it still runs ok and his GF uses it everyday localy. Just wondering if a car can still run ok if the turbo's pooped? And if it will do any lasting damage?

Cheers in advance.

Paul.

It'll be gutless as hell without the turbo running as the engine will have a compression ratio to make use of it. Especially as it's a diesel..

Damage depends on what's wrong with the turbo, there's a small possibility of the vanes having shattered and gone through the engine damaging the pistons and also of particles of the bearings entering the oil and contaminating the rings/bearings/oil pump and causing damage.
