Why no F1 thread this week?

I seem to remember people knocking Hamilton's ability cause he'd not demonstrated his overtaking abilities when up against the fastest drivers....how much more proof do you need that he can race anyone.

However, the thing he's still learning is car setup, I'll take a guess that at the start of the season he was being helped by Alonso...and now he's not, hence Alonso getting the better of him of late. That's my guess.

Great race for McLaren, absolutely fantastic to seem them stick it Ferrari, despite the Italian legal systems attempts to destabilise McLaren. Ferrari and the Italians are bad losers and need to get a grip.

and McLaren aren't bastards when they are losing?

Still not a fan, and that pass was good, but no where near clean...

Have you ever driven in a race? Even a kart race? If you have (and are competative/quick/actually know what it's like to be quick enough to overtake) then you'll know that a pass is a pass. He stuffed it up the inside and the stepped the back end out to hook it into the corner.

I'm sure McLaren hate losing too...but Ferrari are the ones who consistantly get things changed to favour them, like the Michelin tyre that Ferrari got changed suddenly when it became competative even though it had been the same for 3 years.

Yes I have driven in kart races, full track days, etc. Yes, but I do not put others at risk by what I do in a car, which I believe he did. Yes risk is part of it, but not the point. The reason I say this, is because I hav seen couple of people try moves like that and end up flipping the other car.

Those with the money make the rules... Unfortunate, but true... They also have their hands in everything so that they can benefit... Very wrong....

Ferrari were the ones who complained about Renaults damper system last season, so they had to change the car mid season.

The F1 teams are all trying out loopholes to exploit the regulations as much as possible, like Hondas baffle system in their fuel cells a few years back. There is a history of teams trying it on. Some teams put their hands up and say "fair enough" and take it on the chin. Other teams gripe and moan and complain to the FIA. I bet if Ferrari were winning this year, there wouldn't be all this legal wrangle thats happening at present.

Indeed...and the McLaren's would be a whole lot slower if they'd used Ferrari's design ;) :p

Ferrari data was sent by a Ferrari person to a McLaren one...the buck stops there.

If Ferrari wish, and have evidence to do so, they should be concentrating their efforts on their ex-employee Nigel Stepney. NS was, rightly, peeved at the way he got by-passed when some top jobs came up for grabs. He'd been their cheif mechanic for a number of years and felt he deserved a promotion. Ferrari reduced his role to that of a factory based bod and should have known he wouldn't have been happy.

NS and Mike C (from Mclaren) both look like they were going to find new roles at other teams ie Honda and take the data there secretly...you can't legislate for 2 people doing this sort of action and you certainly can't blame an entire team...unless you're Ferrari and you are losing the title on the track.

PS the result was

1. Alonso

2. Hamilson

3. Kimi

4. Nick H

5. Kubica

6. Rosberg

7. Heikki

8. Button

I'm with Alex on this, Ferrari have always been whingers and have wrangled rule changes to suit them. Although every team finds loopholes, most teams tend to be a bit more honest than others, Williams have always struck me as whiter than white, Mclaren know the rules inside out (this showed at the N'ring) while Renault/Benneton have always sailed close to the wind and Ferrari just hoped they would never get caught (like the floor from Australian GP)

Ahh yes the floor.

This was Mclaren's undoing. Stepney told Mclaren about it and how he thought it wasn't legal...it kicked off from there as Ferrari worked to find out who had leaked the information (you couldn't have just noticed it).

Once NS said something to McLaren about the floor he should have been covering his tracks...not sending massive dossier's out to his mates!

The whistleblowing was the right thing to do for the sport, but it unfortunately led us here...
