Alternative to BattleField 2?

I’ve been playing BF2 for over 2 years now, and still love it as much as when I first played it, but I feel I should try and give some other FPS PC games ago.

I got Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 the other day for the PS3 and although it’s a good game after a few hours I kept thinking to myself that my time would be better spent chasing my next BF2 rank or getting some medals

So has anyone got any recommendations?

I'm not playing BF2 as much now (although I'm still chasing ranks!) but really need a PC upgrade before I move on to anything else.

Likely suspects are Quake Wars, Forgotten Hope 2 and Crysis

Quake Wars seems good. Hope it's not like BF2142 as I was not a great fan.

Has anyone played any BF2 mods?

I gave up with BF2 really, after you'd filtered the server list to only include ranked servers etc. I'd be left with half of them with crap pings... and the other half with no ping listed at all so pot luck. I can get decent pings with other games so can't understand why BF is so cack.

I also didn't find it that enjoyable, the ones with vehicles in everyone just runs around in those and I found it all very boring. There didn't seem to be much of a difference between several of the different classes and you could do better by just running round as the medic healing people. *yawn*

I wonder if Counter Strike source is any better, the original CS, now that was a game I played for hours.

BF2142, i love it however i havevstopped with games and waiting for crysis :p and Huxley!!! have you heard about Huxley OMFG Sounds sooooooo good!

i tried playing that world of warcraft... well i got to lvl 34 with a druid then stopped, it bores the shite out of me however it's worth a go if you want to try something differnet however be carefully i've have seen how people change by playing it, one of my friends phil lost his job by getting to hooked, he has become a total layabout and shares no interest's in car's or well life in general any more, 2 month on he still has no job and is not looking, i dont know what's so special about it but to him it's every thing!

Back in the day? Pffftt, I remember playing Doom with my mate over Null-modem cables. That rocked more than that new fangled quake thing. :D

Pah, the original Wolfinstein is where its at! Doom had new fangled idea's like stairs!

I think Medal Of Honour: Airbourne is out today - I played the demo and was very impressed. No idea what the online bit is like, but the single player game is a lot of fun.

yeah anyone play the barniestine mod for wolfensitne? It had bevus and butthead and you had to kill barnie at the end.

Quake wars will not need a big system to run it uses some form of decompressing on the textures so it can get a lot more out of the vidio ram without needing a massive gfx card. If your PC will run Doom3 it will run QW

I have only just started playing BF2 on the PC and I love it. I still play it on the 360 too with my son but it is completely different.

Me too, I do about 2 hours a night every night at the moment. It's even cropping up in my dreams. I'm just a humble Sargeant at the moment with a huge death to kill ratio.

Lol, about the same amount of time here as well. I have not looked at my stats yet but im guessing they are pretty shocking. I have just got my first weapon upgrade and need to try that tonight. Only thing that bugs me is the sniper rifle. I just can't kill anyone with it.

The standard issue ones are a bit poop, you need to use the Type 88 and SVD like pistols but they are still capable of a single shot kill if you hit the head, M24 is OK but slow on reload.

If you have Special Forces and like the sniper kit best unlock the M95 and then you'll be allowed to unlock the L96A1 which is my favourite :)

Takes a bit of practive and having a gaming mouse with high dpi and a graphics card that lets you have the full distance on really helps.

I am hoping that Call of Duty 4 is good, as that should be out in Nov. I think I need to get a PC upgrade though :(

the new COD looks amazing like, i must admit i loved the cod series more then MOH

best wait till after xmas to upgrade memmory prices will sky rocket soon, then will drop back down straight after xmas also the next series of nvidia cards should be on there way, the 8800gts gtx are amazing cards but i would let DX10 settle in first rather then getting the first line jobby, also there will be more range of mobo's that will take ddr 8500 mem and amd will roling out there latest line of cpu's.
