rolling road and an auto

Irvy

Recommended Posts

hi guys/gals

I was attending an RR day today and had problems as my car (auto) would not stay in gear and obtain a proper reading.

I found this in an earler thread and wonder if i should book in for a second go....see below:)

Ok Ok, I believe the easy way is just to select man-u and stick it in drive. Trouble is that locks it in 3rd not 4th (which is the one you want). If you want a proper power reading you need to do this and then at 4,000 rpm turn manu off, this will put it in 4th keeping the throttle down full. It'll mess the curve up though...

opinions pleez as i dont have a scooby! (i have a soopra!! )

Hang on guys, the problem with Irvy's car at Dastek was this:

Car in Manu Mode with O/D off, into drive, braking force then applied to rollers by RR operator before flooring it. The car then would always kick down to 2nd (and RR power graph would instantly show the curve climbing steeply to 600bhp  ). The operator (Gerry at Dastek) said there was no point taking top end power as it went into 3rd or by starting the braking force when it reached 3rd from flooring it as the figures would be meaningless.

When I had Irvy's car, in standard form, it made 323bhp at another rollers, Star Performance. Gerry at Dastek was unconvinced that reading meant anything as they would have bodged the power run to show anything.

As an aside, Star Performance recently bought Dastek's old rollers so will be a very similar setup to Dastek now, not the same rollers as when I had it there.

Cheers,

Brian.

Gordon, as reported that gave a 600bhp power reading  so a no go. Expect c350bhp+ from Irvy's current spec.

Perhaps the operator should have got the speed up to where it couldnt change back to 2nd before flooring it !!!! what ramp angle were they using ????

The only probs mine ever has on a dyno is leaping out the rollers when its running race fuel but its fine upto around 300hp !!!;) , thats a tyeing down issue which hopefully has now been resolved .

Dastek don't set a ramp angle, as far as i can tell there setup is a full 4 roller system, and the only problem they have with cars is the usual autobox, which i know a lot of dyno places don't like to dyno due to the fact the operator dont have as much control over the car as he would with a manual, and hence the car wanting to leave the rollers, which ours wanted to do at Dastek as well, ended up with 4 rachet belts holding it down, and still managed to get out the rollers a little.

I think Gerry might have been hitting the loud pedal a little early for the supra to be changing down to 2nd,which supprise's, as every time we have had our car done there it has never done that.
