Trig
Hi mate, youre probably gonna be looking at least a grand to replace the boiler. it may just be the thermocouple which needs replacing which probably isnt more than a fiver. If i wasnt so far away id come and have a look.

rovervi
Dont know anything about boilers, but happy birthday for friday Thanks very much, lets hope i cheer up by then /vbb/images/smilies/bbcode_sad.gif . What boiler do you have? Errmm an old fuckin crap one no mate its a Wickes 30/40, made by a company called Halstead. To be honest it looks like a real piece of cheapo shit when i had the front off today. I reckon the thermocoupler is whats stopping the pilot from staying on but it looks like one of the pipes has been getting overley hot and also the main water pipe in is leaking and seems loose (thing whatever rubber or whatever else made the pipe snug has gone bye bye) maybe if i can get someone to have a look they can repair the bits, hope so anyway
ivan
I have a Halstead Best 30 that did much the same a while ago. Cost me about £40 for a new extractor fan (the one in the flue). If that siezes the whole thing shuts down. Check to see if it turns OK when you've got the front off. And have a good day Friday.

rovervi
assuming the fan would be on the wall outside?
ivan
It'll be inside the casing at the top, assuming your vent tube goes out the top of the boiler. Look at the diagram in the link I posted. It looks a bit like a small turbo.
