rick001
Please can someone help me, i have suddenly become aware of an annoying metal clanking sound when going over bumpy roads/speed humps etc, its like a nut & bolt thats loose knocking on something or brake pipe loose in a clip - i have recently had my front discs changed and i took it back for them to try to figure it out but no luck. Its driving me crazy as i know its there.... rick

rick001
i dont think its the sheild on mine as i can hear that seperatly sometimes on excelleration this is quite distinct - like a bolt is loose and knocking on something mettalic and hollow i just dont know.. maybe we should get together to trace some ones then we will all know what it is?? dazla
My last supe had the same knocking, tapping, hollowing metallic noise in the exhaust. The garage said it was probably just abit of metal weld or small stone bouncing around because of the heat. It was really annoying
rick001
i hear it only when i go over something bumpy then it knocks - during even travel no contact and then "Annoying knock" when wheels go over a bump etc
R Black
As with rick i only get this noise when moving, generally over bumps, surely a heat sheild would rattle just on revving, i get no noise when stationary. I'm thinking pads now.
Sandy-m2
I'm thinking bushes or joints.
Steve
A good one to check is the Sub frame bolts. These can become loose and cause knocking noises. Worth a check

rick001
I have sorted 1 of the rattles, upon acceleration, it was the down pipe support bracket to gear box that was snapped causing the rattle, ordered new from Toyota £
