Homer
Just got the car back from a service but the garage has noted a 'few' oil leaks, they've told me the following needs sorting out: - Oil seal on diff (where prop goes in) - Rear gearbox oil seal - Front crank oil seal - Cam cover gaskets They told me that there was almost no oil left in the diff or gearbox and that I should consider a recon, do you think this is necessary? Also, they said they couldn’t do the diff and gearbox seals themselves and they would have to be sent away, anyone know any trustworthy garages in the area that can do this in house? Finally I wondered if there were any upgrades worth doing at the same time? I was thinking of maybe a new clutch and underdrive pulley? Anything else I should consider? Any input appreciated
absz
hi mate the oil seals can be bought separate and there is no need for recondtioning the gearbox or diff. i'm sure you will be able to buy these seals from main dealers . but there is a company called BLS which i normally use to obtain my seals and bearings but they normally need old seals as a pattern to match them . dude
All of the seal changes are easy to do , the diff and box especially so as you need to remove the prop to do em , if your doing the front seal make sure you do the mod to stop it blowing as they are prone for this . As far as a rebuild goes i think your garage is trying to rip you off and iff they cant change the seals then stay away from them .
