Stonkin
Guys, does anyone have any experience or knowledge with the B5 S4, 1998-2000 model roughly. I have been thinking of a 530 sport (2001) to replace the supra for a bit, but still give me a nice car in the process. A friend is trying to convince me to consider the S4. My only issue is running costs i believe will be higher than the 530 as these engines are 2.7 bi-turbo's. If anyone has any info about them, would love to hear... Have found a lovely one, with some good extra bits, but the mileage seems way too high and i think the words 'running costs' on this one will be very similar to my supra! http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/215722.htm Thanks Christian
spidermonkey
Hi mate, my bro has one of these fantastic motors, really comfy fast as fook and very thirsty, his is up for sale as he lives in London and can't afford to run it but it is a really nice motor
stupra
That S4 looks like a tasty motor, but the high mile's would put me off too. The 530 sport is not a cheap runabout though either, it's quite thirsty, and the sevicing is expensive some time's.
dr_blackman
The s4's are really nice cars Its german build quality so they usually clock up high miles without to much trouble... but its like any car wear and tear does happen and parts will need replacing sooner or later But on the whole my dads mate loves his s4 and has had it since new without a problem
Stonkin
cheers guys. I'm not properly considering the one i posted as the miles are too high and realisticly i didnt want one that tuned up. However, it is lovely... Just think a 5 is a bit of an old mans car, but i also dont want something as thirsty as the supra was.
Supe
What about the 530d, Im assuming your talking about the 530 Sport petrol model ?

I've got a baby on the way and thinking of a more "practical" car (i.e. something with 4 doors). I'm after something with the following list of goodies and the S4 saloon or avant seems to fit the bill... - 4 doors - lots of boot space - 4 wheel drive (fed up of white knuckle ride in the wet) - a few years newer than the supra - good engineering, reliable - still got a bit of power (for when i drive alone obviously)... 265bhp 0-60mph = 5.58 secs 1/4 mile = 14.31 @ 97.09mph Hi mate, my bro has one of these fantastic motors, really comfy fast as fook and very thirsty, his is up for sale as he lives in London and can't afford to run it but it is a really nice motor you say thirsty, how thirsty ? i think 25 mpg will be a reasonable increase to what i get at the mo, which i think is around 18mph ?!! I live in Essex, got any details and pics of it please sorry for the hijack Christian !!!!!!!!!
Stonkin
What about the 530d, Im assuming your talking about the 530 Sport petrol model ? Have considered a 530d. But. If i got a 5 it would have to have the angel eyes, mtec kit, ie bumpers, seats and suspension. The 530d sports are priced more around 9k which is more than i want to spend. Stonkin
No worries Steve, my thoughts for the S4 were very similar to yours, except i have no baby on the way (i dont think) I'm concerned about the petrol consumption though

loks
Very nice motor and a joy to drive. However, it does not take long before you're missing driving the Supra As mine is the B6 version and 4.2l, do not ask me about the petrol consumption
Cable
I looked at an S4 the other year and found was quick but not as fast as I thought it would be. It may have been the one I looked at as it was at a dodgeyish trader and the whole car didn't seem right. With a mild bit of tweeking they can get about 300bhp but something like 380 lb/ft of torque!! I'd defo consider one still if I was after something a little more 'practical'. Maybe the estate? Jake
Maybe the estate? Indeed. I really like this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/177397.htm Local to me too Dave, just how bad is the fuel consumpton?
ADL Mark
I reckon you'd find the beemer more of a 'drivers' car, as much as I hate to say it. Those older Audi's have a 50/50 torque split on the 4wd system and the engine is way out front making them a bit nose heavy..
Suprasteve
Those older Audi's have a 50/50 torque split on the 4wd system and the engine is way out front making them a bit nose heavy.. a friend of mine has the rs4 and says although it is an amazing car it very much under steers the price difference is mad too ... RS4 = £20k S4 = £8k do you think on the audi forum the S4 is treated as harsh as the N/A... sorry to go off subject...
ADL Mark
RS6 and S6 price difference is the same, I've been looking at the Avant's quite closely. I'm certain the performance gap doesn't warrant such a big price gap. I think the S4 and S6 are well kept secrets as it were..
loks
I really like this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/177397.htm Local to me too Go on Jake, you know it makes sense ... a welcome addition to your Supra family. That's a tidy looking B6 Avant too. Dave, just how bad is the fuel consumpton? You Swine .... but as you ask average weekly consumption is about HK$800 as against the Supra HK$600 - about 30% more but I do tend to give the Audi more of a work out TBH. I know I can be beaten of the line by a fair few cars out there in the NA Supra, so I just don't try... Now with the Audi and it's stealth look, I can pretty much crucify most of the boy racers ... and I have a lot of grey in my hair a friend of mine has the rs4 and says although it is an amazing car it very much under steers Yes, a trait of the 4 wheel drive I'm afraid. It sorts itself out mid corner though and you end up wondering what the fuss was all about the price difference is mad too ... RS4 = £20k S4 = £8k Yes. do you think on the audi forum the S4 is treated as harsh as the N/A... Oh yes They do not mix that well together on the forums either and I've yet to find an Audi forum that is anywhere close to this one.... RS6 and S6 price difference is the same, I've been looking at the Avant's quite closely. I'm certain the performance gap doesn't warrant such a big price gap. I think the S4 and S6 are well kept secrets as it were.. I couldn't agree more.

pistol pete
guys how freaky i just sold my supra TT and bought a s4 for fitting in kiddie etc love it my mussis has a scooby but i mile prefer teh s4 goes like skink build quality is second to none highly recommened it i average around 27mpg not bad for a car like that honestly go drive on i love mine got it in the nergro bluw as well only 94K with full audi history
Suprasteve
i think i've made my mind up now. i'll get rid of the supra early next year :(when the mrs is on maternity leave so i can sell mine privately and not get ripped off by a trader. the only issue i have is that theres not many out there with less than 80k on the clock. Now i know Audis are good for silly high mileage but i reckon i'll have it for a good few years and clock up many more so would be nice if i could find one with less than 60k and on something like an S reg - all this for around £8k, does that sound possible? I called 1 guy today to try and arrange a viewing and he said he drives sensibly and gets about 45 miles to a tenner and about 350 on a long run from a full tank of £50. 45 miles to a tenner is the same as i was getting from my bpu supra, which to be honest has put me off them a bit. Which is a shame as i think they could be a very good car.
