npotts
Hi guys My electric aerial does not work. When I start the car, I can hear what sounds like the aerial motor working (the same happens when I turn it off).... Problem is, the aerial is stuck about half way out - it doesnt move in or out!! Is it just a case of buying a new aerial from halfords or somewhere and just inserting it in? Or do I need to purchase a specific Supra electric jobby - no doubt at some silly price?? Any idea's?? Thanks Nick
merckx
No, I had a similar problem like many others. The mast could be seized or the long length of toothed plastic which pushes the aerial up and pulls it down could have snapped which is more likely. You can get a replacement mast from Toyota for about £30. If you remove the top nut on the aerial and then switch the radio on you should be able to remove the mast with the toothed plastic which runs inside. The end of this plastic piece should be chamfered, you need to insure it all comes out Now with the new mast feed it in (the same way the old one came out, cannot remember which way) and then switch the radio off and it should pull the aerial all the way in. Then put the nut back on.
npotts
Excellent - cheers for the reply merckx!! I will give it a go this weekend and try and sort out the problem.... Thanks Nick
dangerous brain
I have the same problem ish but the plastic strip with the teeth on is intact so i suspect its stripped the teeth off the gears. That aint gonna be cheap so i just pulled the thing all the way up and pulled the plug on it.
