Havard
I thought it wasn't very far before the pressure builds up in the auto box and.............. I was only told this recently so someone with a bit more experience will be along shortly! H.

DamanC
You would be better off paying the AA £50 to sign up and then using them.

SIMON LC
It certainly makes you think does'nt it when you consider most of us are driving round in Autos.
razza
luckily I get free cover with Barclays anyway in case of any bad news.
flukey-lukey
I towed mine about 2 miles once, in N of course and no faster than 30mph. 6 months down the line my autobox started slipping so I had to replace it. Whether towing it caused the failure I'll never know, could've been down to wear and tear or somthing else, but just thought I'd let you know
Matt _Aero top_
Just had a butchers and it seems AA is the cheapest . green flag make you get a quote and the sup was cheaper than my audi 80 coupe ...... hows that figure ? Anyway you can good decent cover where they take you and your car home if they can't fix it for under 70 quid ( AA that is )
Swampy442
Is there a definitive answer to this? I need to move my BM to Oxfordshire....from Suffolk. Cant see how its gonna be an issue to the gearbox, maybe if you left the engine running?
Dave17
Should not be towed with the drive wheels on the floor at all is what Toyota Coulsdon have just told me, not even a short distance unless you are willing to pay for any damage that you incurr. superstar dj
Dont do it mate! My father and i recently towed an auto car(it was a fiat tho!) against our better judgement for about 12 miles at 30 mph by the time we stopped the box was well and truly shafted! Defo not worth the risk .hassle ,money!!!
Swampy442
OK, cheers all

garethr
If it's RWD, disconnect the propshaft and you can tow it as far as you like. As I understand it, the problem is that, if the engine is not turning the input shaft, the transmission fluid is not pumped around the gearbox. Swampy442
Yeah thats what Im doing Gareth, taking the prop off. I still reckon if you run the engine whilst towing there wont be damage, Id like to try but Im not gonna risk it.

I'd like to try but I'm not gonna risk it.Perhaps it would be a problem if the engine side was just ticking over but the wheel side was doing 40mph. Suffolk to Oxfordshire is a long way to tow a car though, Craig. Have you found out how much it would cost to have it transported on a trailer or a recovery truck?
