GazzaGSi
Hi all, Clutch is slipping like a pig since ive had some more work done so obviously need a relpacement. I was wondering which clutch people would suggest and where would I find a clutch for a 5 speed manual good for upto 500ish hp, maybe abit more? Personally though if avoidable I dont really want a 'on/off' kinda clutch as it is a everyday car. The box is currently being rebuilt to withstand the power. Thanks alot Gaz
bromy
Gaz, I am pretty sure for 500bhp you are looking at a paddle clutch which will be on/off, lots of info on the clutches on SF (RPS, Horsepowerfreaks etc) in the N/A section, if you want something more driveable then OS Giken but you will pay big for the likes of that. RPS 6 puck will be my next buy with std flywheel. Would be intrested to know more about your box upgrade.

GazzaGSi
Thanks guys, will make afew calls. Was searching ebay in the US and this is a reply I got: supra-gaz Thank you for the email and if you are making 500-550+ HP and Torque then you will need our Stage 4 racing clutch kit. OK, the stage 4 race only clutch kit comes with what we call here in the US as our Extreme Pressure Plate. The PP is made with a 3300 lbs clamp load. Meaning the PP clamp load is 3300 lbs. A stock PP is rated at 1200 lbs. Our heavy duty stage 3 PP is rated at 1900 lbs. So, our Extreme PP is 3300 lbs and this set up works best with the aluminum or chromoly racing flywheel. Our PP is the heaviest PP in the US. The more torque you have the more clamp load you will need. The clutch pedal feel is only 35-40% over the stock feel. This mean that you can use this clutch kit for some daily driving. The clutch disc is the same as the stage 3, the 6 puck sprung racing clutch disc. Also we do not offer this clutch kit stage 4 on EBay. Most of our customer will never need a clutch kit that is that strong. They simply do not have the Power. This is why the price for the stage 4 is so much higher then the stage 3. All of the top racers, drifter and drag racers in the US are using our clutch kit stage 4. We also make a stage 5,6,7,8, and the stage 9. These clutch kit will use the same PP as the stage 4 but the clutch disc is made with different material. These material are too strong for street driving. Track only clutch kit. I hope this has explain the stage 4 race only clutch kit. The price for the stage 4 racing clutch kit for your (MKIV Toyota Supra 3.0l Non Turbo 5 spd model (1994)) is $490.56 USD. The shipping cost to UK is $121.45 USD. Please note that the overall weight of the package is heavy. The shipping service that you will receive is the USPS Express EMS 3-5 day’s air shipping. With this service you will receive the international tracking, shipping insurance at no extra charge, and the delivery of the clutch kit within 3-5 days not 2-3 weeks. The USPS Express EMS service has received great feedback from our international customers because it gives you peace of mind that the package will arrive shortly. We can also mark the package as a gift to save on the duty. When do you need this clutch kit? All of our clutch kit are made with brand new parts never been used and comes complete with warranty and bearings/ alignment tool. So let me know so I can help you with this clutch kit. If you have anymore questions or simply need pricing on any other performance parts then please reply to this email. I am a Distributor of all major brands such as, Apexi, HKS , Blitz, Sparco, Veilside, AEM, GReddy, Bride, RS*R, DC Sports, Injen, R1, Tein, JIC, Endless and also all OEM parts. Thank you, Chris http://www.proclutch.com How does this sound? I havent done much research at all at the minute into what Im after. I basically asked the chap what he would recommend for my current spec and received the above reply. I highlighted the price because it sounded rather cheap, obviously I do not want something that will only last 3 months so will pay more if the above sounds suspect. GazzaGSi
God dam it ive been browsing all day and just dont know what to buy, im pulling my hair out! Theres that many that seems to be available i do not know what would suite me best. Here: http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Toyota/Supra_93-98/performance/Clutch under the clutch kits section theres hundreds and I dont have a clue what to select. Some of the comments state good for NA-T upgrade but what sort of power/torque can they handle? As well as that I have received an email from another company in the states offering an XTD clutch, 6 puck stage 5 kit with 3300ft/lbs clamping loads pressure plate that will hold 600hp+ for $380 delivery (approx £200)
Jake
I would think very carefully before going a clutch that restricts you to using a lightened flywheel. I desperately want to get rid of mine because of the rattling noise it causes. I think I'll be going for a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and stock flywheel. GazzaGSi
Cheers for the advice, I have been looking at a Fidanza lightened flywheel. Delvered from the States for >£200. What are the pros/cons of running a lightened flywheel? Thanks

What are the pros/cons of running a lightened flywheel? Thanks One con is they rattle like a bag of spanners when depressed at traffic lights etc, unless you are in the know people stare at you like it is broken ! GazzaGSi
I see, i think i need to do alot more research. I thought the rattling was due to either a sprung or unsprung clutch...
Kranz
I have a spare used Fidanza flywheel..... and I have an auto! Don't ask what I was thinking A solid flywheel transmits the torsional vibrations into the gearbox (the stock dual mass flywheel would dampen these out). This leads to the rattling noise in the gearbox, as the Getrag isn't the quietest and most refined box in the world!
Jake
The pros are that it revs a bit quicker under light load. The cons are that makes the gear box rattle like the ace of spades and causes people to keep asking you what's wrong with your car. Also the revs drop very quickly when the clutch is pressed, so smooth gear changes require extra effort/attention. Frankly I think it's a stupid mod for a road car. GazzaGSi
From that I think I will pass on a lightened flywheel. Thanks for the pointers. May buy a boostlogic crank pulley rather than the lightened flywheel to replace my under drive pulley.
