Guest jkyle69
I have this piggy back ecu on my supra (although didnt know when I bought it ) does anyone have or know where I can get the software that is needed to set it up or remap etc? Have been in touch with HKS Europe and they said they dont support it and said whatever you do be it on your head....
MarkR
Hmmm, you'll need the power writer software, but I've tried to get hold of it and no luck. I also think it might need a dongle to work, so you'll probably need to find an HKS mapper. I might be wrong though.
bolarbag
If you find the software give me a shout! I have a HKS F-Con V too, as far as I'm aware it uses the same PID for your afr's as the Pro does so really unless your changing your entire setup it should run fine, and adapt to mods as you add them, but it just wont be the 'best' setup if you know what I mean, it really depends on how your cars running at the mo, what are your afr's on WOT? There are dip switch settings on the front, that can be preconfigured to change to different maps(its got to be done when being mapped) I wouldnt play around with these
Ryan.G
Would love to have access to software and dongle files as get so many people wanting these mapping but have to send elsewere
Thorin
A mate of mines old Supra had an F-CON V, was a silver J-Spec with 3 spoke advan wheels at the time, wonder what happened to it. He gave up trying to get the software/someone who knew about it and just left it.
Chris Wilson
Write to HKS Europe then, and state your case! If enough people want the product, and it's possibly obsolete to them, they may consider releasing it, who knows? personally I wouldn't support any ecu that held the software within its own dealer network. If I buy a bottle of wine I want to be free to uncork it in the swimming baths, get *issed and drown myself, if that so pleases me! Not to be told that it will only be un corkable at selected bars. bolarbag
Hence why I bought Motec, HKS are shooting themselves in the foot with this one:rolleyes:
Ryan.G
Ok Bit more info as just spoke to them on phone You need to pay a £500 license fee per yr for the software and dongle You also need to have a dyno before they will even consider supply the software to you. They also have to come check out all your premises and you need to pay for the engineer to come out for the day. The list goes on

Guest jkyle69
Would you recommend an alternative HKS piggy back ECU?
Steve
Choose your mapper first, then choose your ECU
MarkR
Choose your mapper first, then choose your ECU I've heard that before I'm steering well clear of the HKS stuff due to these problems. Still deciding on which one though (and saving the cash)
Guest jkyle69
Can anyone post a list of alternative ECU options? I know of Motec and Emerald - any others (I always assumed these were complete replacements?)
Chris Wilson
MBE and DTA are pretty good, low cost ecus, Weber Marelli and EFI Technology are 2 others to consider. There are many others, and you get exactly what yo pay for in terms of support and reliable features and software upgrades.
