Guest spider
Looking very nice, can i ask is this an upgrade or a re-build?Does it cost much to re-build a Supra engine?
Kev.O
Looks fantastic, thank you Chris
Chris Wilson
It was rebuilt fully, with forged pistons and 264 cams with a full head overhaul, and new pumps, bearings, full engine balance, new clutch and flywheel, blah blah. A cracked casting was found and renewed as well. Cost depends on the state of the donor engine and what upgrades need doing, and whether I need to remove and refit it, map it, whatever. bmx1lew
how would a rebuild cost with just the standard toyota parts ?
Ark
Toying with the idea of doing the job properly, while my turbos are off anyway...
Sheefa
Work of Art Chris. How long did the build take and how long does the engine typically have to be 'run in' for? Greg
Chris Wilson
Thanks, it took too long, but not as long as petes (thanks for your patience guys... ) Both are on new pistons and bores, so they will need running in as new engines, say 2000 miles. They MUST be run in on a proper AFR and timing, so no no "base maps", temporary maps, borrowed maps or guesstimated maps please!!
zap
Well done that man, looks great. Must be a great feeling putting an almost new engine in your car :)
Chris Wilson
looks good!! Bet he is impressed! Is that an SR4 I spy in the background? Good God no, I don't have junk in here you know.... It's how a Radical should be if they did one properly! Zeus Toyota.
Pete
They're called Jaguar JP1s now I believe. http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/41373/palmer_jaguar_jp1.html
Chris Wilson
Yes, they are Pete, my two were the last factory race cars made by Zeus, who went bust and Dr Jonathan Palmers outfit bought the manufacturing rights, cheapened the build and fitted 3 litre jag V6 engines for track day, and even road usage. The race cars used better components and were loads lighter, but unfortunately Zeus over stretched themselves on a Japanese race car project of monumental cost and complexity. That's not to say a JP1 isn't a nice thing, they are lovely, but quite different to the race car series. The fact the red one has a Toyota engine makes it special, of course
grahamc
More likely to be a Zeus. Good God no, I don't have junk in here you know.... It's how a Radical should be if they did one properly!
