different races (the human type)

Was talking away to a work collegue this morning and happened to mention the word 'jock' as a 'taking the mick' out of a fellow worker as he is scottish. We use it all the time as he also calls me various names in jest etc.

Now, a recent starter emailed me saying she overheard me calling this guy 'jock' and told me not to blert racism over the office as she found it offensive !?!?!?

My understanding of 'race' is that mainly europeans are white caucasian, where as the middle-east is mainly asian, africa is mainly african etc. etc.

When did Scottich people (and Welsh, French, Irish, Spanish etc.) start becoming a saparate race to us English ??

It is a long standing English tradition to take the pi$$ out of our neighbouring countries.... the french, the Welsh etc. etc. (all in a jesting mannour of course, nothing too offensive),.... but some people like to bring out the racist card on everything these days !

What are others opinions on this ?

I'm English born and bread but my young nephew is mixed race, I'm sure further down a particular branch of my family tree there's bound to be some scottish or Welsh in there somewhere..... but why are a lot of people these days confusing Nationalities with Races ?

If I called someone an english b*****d then it would be considered racism. It dosn't matter that we are all brittish. Being offensive to someone because of their nationality is the same as being offensive about their colour.

I worked in england for a few years though and many people called me jock. I didn't take it as an insult but I do know many scots thats don't like it.

I wouldn't see the 'english b*****d' comment as being racism at all.

Having a different nationality is totally different to being a different race surely.

Race is genetic and a family thing whereas nationality is just the country where you were born. Or the country name you decide to put on your passport etc.

I emailed her back by the way stating that nationality is not a race. Not got a reply back yet.

I thought that waving my 'package' in her face as suggested by RedM may not have been the best approach. ;)

Wallace - this guy in my office, we've always had friendly banter such as this, .... it comes from the game of rugby when England and Scotland play each other. We were simply talking about the up coming rugby worruld cup. :)

Wave your dick in her face and tell her to shut up or suck.

I can't be sure that you won't get fired though.

:D

Christ! Are there really people like this with nothing else to worry about. I'd tell your "jock" mate and see what he says!

I must admit that it's a phrase that I don't use but I can sort of understand someone being offended if you didn't know them, at worst it's just a bit over familiar! Definitely not racist though!

I would just buy her a dildo and tell her to go and f*ck herself and stop earwigging!!

i am in the army you should here half the things people get called in the troop, we have people from all over the country and the first thing they get when they arrive is a nick name, normally from where they come from untill a proper one can be sorted out.

The problems start when you call someone 'P@ki', again it's relating to the country of origin as in jock, paddy etc, is this now not racist then?

I don't get all this PC bollocks tbh?

Seems to apply to those who want to play the card and gain from it imo.
