toyotasuprauk
I have a bit of a problem with my steering and I'm hoping someone will be able to offer some advise. Its hard to describe, and I think it may be worse than I release as its happened over time and I've got used to it.The steering sometimes feels normal, then another time it will be pulling to the left or very occasionally pull slightly to the right. It just generally feels wrong, and a bit spongy. I know its hard to tell from that description but has anyone experienced anything similar or got any ideas of any parts that could be warn? dangerous brain
Worn steering rack? Jack the front end up so the wheels are off the ground. Have someone hold the steering wheel solid and see if you can twist the wheels much.
lust2luv
Could just be tramlining? Find a good quality bit of flat tarmac and see if it pulls either way when you release the wheel.
Scooter
or could be the front subframe bolts are loose?

Gordon F
Start with the easy things like checking the tyre pressures and condition. Have you kerbed it ? It may need the alignment checking. Check the power steering fluid and belt tension. Give the dampers a good bounce and make sure the return to the normal position. Get a torch and look up under the wing to check for any fluid leaking from the dampers. Have a look at the steering linkage for any obvious signs of something loose. Other things could be the front subframe bolts as Scooter suggested. It could also be a dodgy speed delimit / conversion, as the supra steering gives less power asssitance at high speed than it does at low speed. Bad delimits have sometimes managed to get this the wrong way round. Also, non standard wheel and tyre sizes can affect the steering. See if you can find another local supra owner and get him to drive your car if you need a second opinion, but if you are sure that there is something wrong get it looked at very soon! toyotasuprauk
Many thanks for your comments. I've had a quick look under the car and it does look like some fluid is leaking from somewhere. I've attached a picture from both sides and it looks like its leaking. Anyone got any ideas what this is? Left side:

DEF
Like the dude says check the resevoir but also deffo get the tracking checked. I bent a power steering pipe on my 200sx and since it turns to the right but i am still saving for full laser allignment as the Teins go n soon so it could be tracking???? Or a miss balanced tyre or a dodgy camber bolt or a.....etc.....etc

toyotasuprauk
I'll check the reservoir. I have recently had a 4 wheel alignment done. It made the car feel better especially the rear but otherwise didn't make any difference to this steering problem.
dangerous brain
Dude wouldn't the steering rack have to be well and truelly knacked for it to leak enough to show up with a low reservoir? A lot more so than the evidence of those pics? That said its not looking clever for the steering rack if that is hyd fluid. If you can reach it rub some of that oil from the rubber boot you pictured onto a bit of cloth or your fingers if you don't mind a bit of oil and sniff check it in comparison to the smell either from a new bottle of steering fluid or from the dipstick in the reservoir. Its a very distinctive smell and will tell you immediately if its hyd fluid on that boot or A nother fluid. If the top of the boot is dry then its odds on fave that the fluid is coming from inside ie the steering rack. As I said initially you can feel how much slack there is in a steering system by doing what I said in my first post.
toyotasuprauk
Unfortunately DB I was already checking the car when you posted so I'll compare the smells tomorrow. The reservoir seems ok to me I guess, the car was last driven about 3 hours ago and the level is just over the C on Cold on the stick.
