AJI
I was at the Nurburgring again last weekend and saw Toyota/Lexus testing their new GT hybrid car. They were using two stock MkIVs as test comparison platforms. Anyway, take a look : http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v143/AJI-2004/vids/?action=view¤t=LexusGThybrid.flv

Gaz6002
What defines this car as a "hybrid"? I only ask as I read it was going to be a normal petrol engine, with the possibility of hybrid power in the future?
AJI
I may have got it wrong but I always thought it was a hybrid engine from the day of conception. The stock Supras both looked and sounded very stock. They weren't on the ragged edge but were putting in steady solid 9min lap times. The Lexus was going a little faster by the looks of things but again it was being driven very smoothly.

ivan
I like the idea of using the MkIVs for comparison. Shows they're thinking along the right lines.
Guigsy
doesnt look that bad. that other lexus thing ive seen looks horrable though. Sharpie
I'd wonder if the MkIV are special factory fresh reserved testing cars then? I was thinking that too.....will they sell them later ? AJI
I think the Lexus is the LFA, and although some people are calling the it the MKV Supra, I believe them to be 2 different models. Same view here to be honest. No way can this Lexus be considered a MkV Supra. It may be RWD with a powerful engine but it has not been derrived from the previous Supra models in anyway. Its been a complete re-start design from what I have read in the past. Hence why it is now under the Lexus badge and not Toyota.

Hence why it is now under the Lexus badge and not Toyota. Was the mkiv derived form the mkiii? I'd have thought they were badging it as a Lexus more because it's going to cost a shedload (estimates range from £80k~£118k), and who wants to pay that for 'just' a Toyota? That's one of the reasons a Toyota salesman years ago told me the mkiv wasn't that popular in the UK - "why pay Porsche money for a Toyota". As far as I'm aware, the car you filmed isn't going to be a hybrid; the Future Toyota Hybrid Sport (Toyota FT-HS) will be however. This is the car most people refer to as the 'new Supra', however IMHO the Lexus LF-A is much more 'Supra-like' than the FT-HS; just look at the basic shape of the two cars for starters, then consider that however good the FT-HS might end up being, it's still several cylinders and 100bhp down on the Lexus and it's a tree-hugging 'hybrid' - thus playing second fiddle to the LF-A - and since when was the Supra second best in a manufacturer lineup?? There is something cunning about the FT-HS though - apparently it uses regenerative braking to charge capacitors that then help drive each wheel out of the corner you just braked for - that sounds pretty sweet; we'll have to wait & see if the idea ever makes it to the real world. The Lexus testing at the 'Ring captured my heart the moment it drove past me (and the others - Henk filmed this) in August, foot welded to the floor and bonnet splattered in many 'owend' AMG Mercs that were also there that day It was right in the middle of the lonnnnnnnnng S/F straight, too :D EDIT to say - in your video Aron it doesn't look like the driver was 'going for it' much; look at the lines he takes, and compare the (lack of) tyre screeching & (difference in) volume/voracity of the exhaust note with Henk's vid The LF-A lapped in ~7:50, for a FULL lap (manufacturer testing day), including getting round an additional chicane mid-fast-bend that had been added temporarily (I forget which bend but another spectator chap there told me about it). He never stopped in the hour or so we watched for, and every lap was sub 8:20. For a stock car, I'm sure you'll agree; that's fantastic.
D8MOA
steve rounded it up in a nut shell v10 petrol no hybrid at all. and is guna cost 100k..... weve got 2 deposits on LF-A'S even though there is no official date it released
