b.weeks
Hi all, I went to Bedford Autodrome on Monday - had a great time. Although at the end of the day, my master warning light started to flash at the same time as the brake system warning light. It would go on for a few seconds, then switch off again. No particular pattern to it. When driving home, I did notice that the light seemed to go off at higher revs. I checked the brake fluid level and that seemed fine. (FYI I have braided goodridge lines and aftermarket pads and disks) No particular brake fade seemed present. Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Ben. Ric
the brake fluid sensor is extreamly sensative, even though the level looked ok, it might just need a little more
Chris Wilson
The extra pad wear induced by a track day has resulted in the fluid dropping in the reservoir, fill it about 1/8 inch above the full mark. When you renew the pads it may need a bit of fluid syphoning out, to prevent spillage out of the breather hole in the reservoir cap.
Justin
Missed you by a day mate. I did Bedford on Sunday an my brake pedal went flat to the floor! Boiled my fluid. I'm looking at getting some Castrol SRF now.
b.weeks
Hi Justin - that's a shame. I was there for the Lotus on Track day as my mate has a VX220 Turbo. It was interesting that these cars performed very similar (in terms of times - we didn't time, but he was keeping the same distance more or less behind me) although different kettles of fish. On the straight I got up to about 140 where as he was at 130 by the end. I think Gaz @ Envy's suggestion for the brakes worked well and I could brake pretty late. Out of interest, what speeds were you getting at the end of the straight Justin? I span once which was interesting :-) Yeah, could be that as it was at the lower end of the allowable region for the fluid level. Maybe at higher revs, I was pulling away a bit and it pushed the fluid up the sensor a bit.
b.weeks
PS Was my first track day (have just done drag strips until now). Was well worth doing, and helps figure out future upgrades. For example, bucket seats, new calipers, suspension and tyres will be coming before a big single upgrade.
