supraguye
Hi, I know these wheel sizes higlighted in the subject are narrower than the stock 17s which come on the late model TTs. Would fitting my car with these wheels negatively impact the handling? Thanks
JustGav
You will find the TT will struggle for grip when it gets really booted on standard sizes, running even narrower will mean less grip on the road which generally is not a good idea. Also I would doubt the 18x9's that you have are the correct offset for the car.
supraguye
Thanks Gav, What offset is suitable for the TT?
bodilx6
I'm running 18x8" front/rear with 225/245 on em. I ordered them from the dealer when I bought the car and wasn't aware that they were only 8". BUT, running BPU I have no real issues with grip. I have noticed a bit of slip at the end of 2nd gear only but it had to me a bit damp for it to happen. On dry roads nothing. My main issue is that 8" look a bit narrow and apparently it is more the rim size that dictates the with than the tyre. I've even been to the nürburgring and had no issues at all so I only think you will see an issue if you go beyond BPU
bolarbag
I'm running 18x8" front/rear with 225/245 on em. Are you running slicks?
robin
wider tyres will only have a similar contact area as more narrow ones. The area is a different shape; wider but not as long. I think wider tyres will withstand more abuse and as they are wider are less likely to deform so should handle slightly better but not as much as you would expect. If somone is really bored try putting a pair of space savers on the rear wheels and trying them out. (in a safe area) they grip surprisingly well but dont last long at all. supraguye
So with the following tyre sizes Front: 235/40 Rear: 265/35 I should be ok?
merckx
So with the following tyre sizes Front: 235/40 Rear: 265/35 I should be ok? They'll be fine, they're very close to the diameter of the tyres on a stock car with 17" wheels. Make sure you get the correct offsets though so the wheels clear the brakes but don't rub on the arches.
