Guest murarie
Please see.... http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/8048/dsc00232il1.jpg http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/2110/dsc00234cr7.jpg I recently changed the T belt and Cam seals. It was not leaking when i checked after a test drive after the T belt change. I found out when i opened the Tbelt Cover after 20 miles to recheck the T belt. I got the VVTi Cam gear off , i dont see any leak from behind the cam gear , so it cant be the cam seal.... It is also not from the Cam Gear Cap with the big Hex. Also any chance of the Cam gear (VVTi) itself leaking? Can the leak be from between the 2 parts of the cam gear? (Rounded Area) http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9038/dsc00242ix8.jpg Any info will be much appreciated......
Jake
I imagine the leak is coming from the oil feed that pressurizes the VVTi . You'll probably need to strip the intake cam side down a bit too see it properly. Are you sure you didn't over-tighten the front bearing cap? They're easily damaged if over tightened (As I found out myself ) Is the car Right Hand Drive? It's just that we've never seen a RHD VVTi NA. In fact we didn't believe they existed. If so, do you have a photo of the engine bay we could see please?
Guest murarie
Jake, The surprising part is, it only leaks on the front - the back of the cam pulley is dry. Do you say the front bearing cap is the one IN the Cam cover or the cap with the VVTi actuator? Yes it is a RHD NA VVTi Auto , it is a 1999 JDM import. I will post few Pics soon...... Toyota makes so many models and variants it is almost a joke. Do you know it made over 150 different variants of the RAV4 in 1998.....
