Rob
One. Should the temp control knob have any light? Mine is pitch black, coincident with the odd behaviour of my heater controls. Two. I also am lucky enough to have an Audi A6, which, whilst driving at night, emits a pale red glow to the interior from tiny little Leds in the head lining. Very nice, as it matches the dial colour. I want to achieve the same effect in the Supra but with green lights. I rigged up four little 12V Leds behind the rear view mirror but they don't spread any light at all, unless I hold my hand up to them. Does anyone of you electircal bods know the ref.code(say, from Maplins or similar) for a green Led that will actually project a pool of green light? eyefi
cant remember whether the knob illuminates. but, LED's have a beam focus, some have a wide angle of illumination (what u need) and others have a very narrow angle, these can only illuminate directly in front of the LED
Aerotop Dave
Do you mean the knob itself or the temperature settings themselves? (20, 25, 30'C, etc). The knob doesn't light up but the numbers should. Got any pics of this light up headlining doobry? (on the Audi I mean). Sounds intriguing... npotts
Interestingly enough, the numbers on my temperature dial do not light up either!! I wonder if it just needs a new bulb or something? I assumed it was supposed to be like this!! Nick
Aerotop Dave
Hmmm, well I think they do. I'm gonna check myself when I go home now!
Rob
I'm sure I remember there was a faint glow around the knob (so to speak) of the temp control, i.e. the numbers didn't light up like the fan speed knob does. No pictures of the Audi, it would take a tripod set-up and long exposure to come anywhere near to photographing it. You can't see any Leds, they're tucked up in the plastic trim around the courtesy lights and rear view mirror, but they give a gentle red hue to the dash, especially when you reach your hand out to fiddle with the radio. A bit like a jet airliner cockpit (with similar fuel economy:mad: )
Dave F
I put up a thread about this a couple of weeks ago as my lights seem to work some times and not others (maybe a loose connection) It was titled A/C lights worth looking at as it shows a few examples where lights have been changed to blue, red e.t.c. Aerotop Dave
Okay, I can confirm that the numbers on the temp dial DO light up, and there's also a line on the knob itself that lights up. The fan knob settings also light up, but there's no line on it (as it just goes round and round). The only thing I can see that doesn't light up is - ironically - the lighting dimmer switch near the ignition. Edit: DaveF's thread is here (seeing as he was too lazy to search for it himself ) http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28671&perpage=10&highlight=dash
dangerous brain
Yes there is a bulb in the back of the heater control box that emits light into the temp control section of the box hence lighting it. The lights in the fan speed section are LEDs and can be changed for any colour you like as can the lights that designate which button is depressed ie A/C, rear demister, flow in from outside, flow to feet or windows etc Pictures speak louder than words so heres one the two bulbs in question are badly circled Picture of back of heater control box
Rob
Ah, excellent, a picture. The heating is generally playing up, fan speed knob doesn't work, rear screen heater comes on when I press the Auto button, that sort of thing. The light failure happened at the same time. Looks like I'm taking the dash apart again. Only the 8th time this year though.
