Guest bass-t
Hi all, I've had this problem for a while now, thought it was AFM and BOV related but is not the case. 1999 model car stock standard j-spec, 180 speed limiter still intact 6spd manual. On my stock twins ever since installing a tial bov on my car here and there under load the car would shut down and the master and check engine lights would come on. Turning the car off and restarting it got rid of the lights and all was fine. The problem would come and go. But it would only occur if I gave the car some load then the warning lights would come on. Then one day my TPS died and my car wouldnt idle. I replaced the TPS and the car now idles perfect. I am also using a TRD 320 speed which I bought in december last year. The warning lights _only_ began after installing my BOV, so I thought the issue was AFM/BOV related. I pulled out my stock twins and installed a t78. Removed my bov, so now the car is not running a bov at all. The problem persists under load. The master and check engine light would come on and engine would shut down. The symptom sounds like its a code 42 speed error to me. The car is at my mechanic so I dont know the error code, but I will try getting it asap. What is everyone elses opinion? Is it code 42 or something more sinister? Cheers.
Jake
You've still got the 180kmh limiter on a Single Turbo Supe? What ECU and injectors are fitted? I'd try to get those error codes read first. Although it's not easy finding somewhere that can do it.
Guest bass-t
haha yeah I still have the limiter.... Stock standard ECU stock 440cc injectors.. running 2 walbro pumps. Dont worry the turbo is only at 14psi so should be fine on stock fuel. I hope my mechanic has an OBDII reader with VPW...
carl0s
Symptoms sound like Fuel Cut, but I presume you have an FCD fitted already?
Jake
He wouldn't hit fuel cut at 14psi though. A single turbo on stock ECU and stock injectors sounds crazy to me. I'm amazed it runs even half-way decently. I wonder what his AFRs are at 14psi with the increased airflow from the T78
carl0s
He wouldn't hit fuel cut at 14psi though. I know, but he's only 1psi off.. could be a pessimistic boost gauge.
Guest bass-t
Dont forget lads this same issue happened when I was on my stock twins on 10psi. So it cant be fuel cut. Driving it with little load, is fine, it can get up to 180km/h just fine. Hoping to get the error code soon, my mechanic thinks its the AFM. Guest bass-t
Update: Error code is 89? Which makes no sense as it doesnt co-respond to the obdii toyota specific error codes or the generic ones. Perhaps my mechanic's obdii reader doesnt have vpw? Also as it cmes on boost, the afr is at 9 and falling... bloody rich for around 3k rpm! Maybe the fuel regulator is fudged and flooding the motor... which the motor doesnt like and shuts down?
