MarkR
Sometimes when I drive my car and accelerate at 30-40% throttle, and change from 2nd into 3rd, the engine feels like its being strangled.. almost like it's not getting enough air or fuel or maybe too much of one or the other (I have no way of measuring this yet). If I lift my foot off the accelerator and put it back down, then it goes away. It's an intermittent problem. Any ideas?

Pete
There is one stretch of road near my house where the incline seems to be just right to do what you describe. Some mornings it'll shift from 2nd to 3rd at 30-40% throttle and as it does goes off boost and AFR goes quite rich. As it only does it in this one place I put it down to just the right conditions of engine load, throttle, shift point and what the turbos are up to. It's 100% fine all other times and places. MarkR
I've been thinking that it might be down to the BOV venting to the atmosphere instead of recirculating. It only started happening after fitting the HKS BOV. The fact that the backfiring seems to be down to being too rich makes me think that maybe it's having the power loss effect? I'm only just learning about A/F Rich Lean conditions, so it's guesswork on my part at best for now. When do you get your recirc kit? Maybe you could try that incline after fitting it? n boost
Hello matey, Basically i fitted a greddy rs bov and found that it made the car run rich which was vented to atmosphere. Also i had one of then little hks vacuum filters fitted. The problem i got was my bov was leaking boost. I did a pressure check and found leaks from the hks vacuum filter and greddy flanges. I would check a/f ratios and do a pressure test to make sure u don't have any leaks, or block of the bov and see if it makes a difference. MarkR
Hmmm, I might just have to bite the bullet and buy one of the recirc kits. There appears to be a hole in my wallet...
MarkR
I just checked the gap between the outlet of the SSQBOV and the blocked off pipe. There is no way a kit will fit on there with the std bracket. Tomorrow, I'll be changing back to the standard Toyota BOV and seeing if it makes any difference before buying a recirc kit. Will keep you posted.
MarkR
Hello all Just an update! Refitting the original Toyota BOV has worked a treat. Feels like a new car again The power is far more stable, no dips and surges etc, just smooth power delivery all the way! Anyone with a VVTI might wanna rethink the vent to air BOV's. Cheers Mark
