JohnK
Following on from the drag racing thread where I am trying to find out why I cant get a decent time. Id like your thoughts on the following, its my best run from the recent RWYB from pod and I was running against Chilli Boy from this site. Im running a UK spec @ 1.2 bar and the other car is a J spec, im unsure of the mods but I believe pretty standard. me Chilli 2.378.........60ft........2.371 6.078........330ft.......6.076 8.971........1/8..........9.031 87.18........1/8MPH ..83.80 11.468......1000ft....11.471 13.701......1/4.........13.662 103.94......1/4MPH..104.95 As you can see we were pretty evenly matched. However my car being a UK spec with the steel turbos that are ment to be better than the ceramics once they have spooled I have to wonder why after the 1/8 point im nearly 4mph faster yet at the finish im only 1 mph up and the even though it seems I have the advantage at the 1/8 the other car covers the last 1/8 faster than me. Im not after a UK v J spec debate (fight:eek:) Just what the weakness in my car is and what I could do to improve. Thoughts please. Bobbeh
I was getting those terminals on stock boost. But weight, and spool shouldnt come into it really, once you're moving at higher speed. Perhaps the headlight washers are screwing with your aerodynamics! Interesting slip tho. BTW is chilli auto?
JohnK
His sig just says blue TT 6, so manual and im fairly sure, stock boost. All of which makes my times seem worse as in general auto's are faster on the 1/4 and im running more boost.
Bobbeh
That could explain the higher top end then. Autos lose more power to the wheels than a manual. Ever had your car dyno'd John?
JohnK
nope never dyno'd, I imagine its in good shape though as it was stock and only had 31k on the clock when I got it. I have no reason to believe there is anything wrong, it drives superbly.
Bobbeh
Hehe compare it to my best. 2.356.........60ft 6.217.........330ft 9.311.........1/8 80.68.........1/8MPH 11.892.......1000ft 14.160.......1/4 103.66.......1/4MPH
dude
John has a good 1/8 mile time , perhaps the smic is past its best and not cooling the intake charge that much therfore the higher boost is not achieving much !!! Dude:flame Dev
JohnK
Dude, its possible the SMIC isnt 100% but I was giving it a healthy blast of Co2 before each run.

Jake
Hi John. If you compare our SantaPod times it seems like your car started off quicker but mine finished stronger. JohnK ==================== Jake 2.378 ------ 60ft ------- 2.624 6.078 ------330ft ------- 6.374 8.971 ------1/8 --------- 9.116 87.18 ------1/8MPH ------ 90.96 11.468 -----1000ft ----- 11.355 13.701 -----1/4 -------- 13.340 103.94 -----1/4 MPH ---- 116.27 Looking at the times for the 1/8 mile, your car got there more quickly but my car's higher speed would have started catching you by then. Almost 4mph difference at the halfway point seems like quite a lot, especially since your car seems to have gotten a better start. This is all very odd. Surely your UK car should be the one starting slower and finishing quicker?

I'm sure his (or any auto Supra) would be good off the mark if it had a HiStall TC like yours does.

Jake
So how come the quicker start and better over all time doesn't give a higher trap speed? I don't get it. What drag event next Sunday?
MONKEYmark
think when you fit a tc it robs some of your trap speed. dude will know about them more. that top speed event richie is sorting out next sun 21st nov he said you can also pay on the day too. Sharpie
Hi John, Just to compare my UK Auto BPU + FMIC at 1.2-1.25bar My best from Sep 2004 with 30 Deg C external temps JohnK ===========Pete Sharp 2.378 ------ 60ft ------- 2.224 6.078 ------330ft ------- 6.040 8.971 ------1/8 --------- 8.963 87.18 ------1/8MPH ------ 84.89 11.468 -----1000ft ----- 11.401 13.701 -----1/4 -------- 13.572 103.94 -----1/4 MPH ---- 106.38 I have only been to POD twice Apr 03/Sep04 so, an new to this too. I have never pulled the trac fuse, dropped the air in my tyres but, do keep aircon off when running and power brake on the line. However, I do struggle to run my own race and not race the other guy I'd like to bring my times down next year too. HTH

HTH thats a close one on paper. keeping in gear too long or shifting to early can mess your times up. i have knocked it out of drive into neutral a couple of times thinking i was in 2nd gear
Sharpie
I leave it in D with OD off so, only use the 3 gears anyway, don't go fast enough for 4th Never tried it in MANU mode at the strip
