Help!! my drivers door window stuck fully open. The cable seems jammed in motor causing the plastic cable holder on the upright glass mechanism to break off. I had to cut the other end of the cable to close the windiow and have jammed it shut with bit of wood - very technical!!

whats the best way of fixing it? Can you get cables separately and fit to the existing motor, or do it need to buy a complete new assembly [motor with cables], if so where is best place to try and buy a second hand one, also how much?

Any advice much appreciated, ta!

Jezz for second hand part, Toyota dealer for new part @ £70, cable not available seperately as new, some guys have used bicycle brake cable to do a Blue Peter type fix, replacement easy, instructions and all the above available at the touch of the search button:)

Here's a nice pic of what it's like.:)

To replace just the cables it's a little fidly, you have to make the cables to a specific length and fit new terminations.

If you're not capable of doing this I would recommend getting a new unit, there might not be much life left in a secondhand one.

Thanks for both replies and pic of assembly. I dont fancy trying to make up cables etc, and so will buy a new one. Do you get the whole assemby as shown in the pic for £70, or are there other bits that i need to ask for?

Also as its an Import, just in case the dealer get stroppy, is the assembly the same in all Supras variants and year models?

I had to replace the cable on jemmas ford ka. They are all the same cable in all cars. Its just abit of wire. Anyway we were quoted £180 fitted. That's a new moter and cable, because you can't buy them separate. Luckily we found a bloke in the auto trader who wires them back up for £30 but he's in Blackburn. If you can find somewhere near by then your alright. It took him about 1 hour and its not easy.

I expect they would be fiddely to replace the cable but it's quite easy to replace the entire mechanism. Mine went a few months back an managed to get hold of a 2nd hand unit for £25.

Can I tag another query to this window thread?

After nearly 4 years of ownership the Toyota reputation of bullet proof engineering is letting me down; :) my drivers side window when going down is making a "whining" noise,if I pull on the window as it drops sometimes the noise lessens so I guess it is rubbing against something?

Any ideas as to what this might be, before I venture into taking the door panel off? Going back up is fine it is only opening it that causes the noise.

Thanks to all for input. Especially to Merckx, a picture and part number...spot on!

been to Italy for 2 weeks. Loads of great drving roads, not too much traffific, hardly any fuzz and no cameras!!! you just need to keep stopping to clear the Fiats out of the front grill coz it makes the car overheat!!

regards.
