Stevie Boy
I asked them why they couldnt get the info they needed to change the oil from toyota japan, the answer "we just cant" at that point i lost the will to live and left. Hmmm, I suspect they refer their technical enquires to some form of UK based TOYOTA hq, and if they don't have the info to hand because it's not a UK model I would think TOYOTA uk shouldn't have any problems liasing with Japan on their behalf. I guess all in all may be a lot of time consuming enquires for something they should be able to workout for themselves ie fitting a clutch being familiar with the brand in general. Where more vehicle specific data or diagnosis is required i guess you'd have to be prepared for them to hold fire while the enquires were made, meaning your cars off the road for longer. Independant garages will be more willing to take on anything and source information from what may be from a main dealer point of view, unauthordox sources, i.e. the internet, etc As a main dealer also has to be cautious of also recieving bad press for the work they carry out which could have legal implications as opposed to 5mins of abuse in the showroom having to admit they dont wish to work an import/NA Supra that TOYOTA never intended for the UK market. Guest Chumpalot
And I thought Vauxhall garages were bad I took my old car (Corsa C Sxi) to a Vaux bodyshop just round the corner from where I live to get a quote on some spraying (arches and front lip). The guy came out with his little clipboard and paper, took one look at the wheels and said, "sorry mate, can't quote you, those wheels rub". "No they don't rub, I've had them on the car for a while and they're fine". I eventually managed to convince him that MY wheels on MY car didn't rub. After that he tried to fob me off with an excuse as to why they couldn't spray the arches. Something to do with the fact that they couldn't guarantee to get the 'orange peel' texture out of the plastic... They did the front lip in the end which was great but fcuk me what a carry on. Monkeys.

Even insurance companies try and get out of Main Dealer bodyshops!
Guest Chumpalot
It did Steve. It was when I was pretty clueless about that sort of thing really so just took it to Vauxhall for them to do. At least I was guaranteed a good job. £120 it cost to do the lip.

MarkR
Consider yourself lucky. I took mine to a Jemca for gearbox issues. They had it a week and said the auto box was "supposed to slip gears" like that. Yeah right. A month later it was stuffed. I took it back to another Jemca, and they had it a month. They gave it back to me, and I noticed that they'd fixed the gearbox (28 days and £2200 later) and also smashed my genuine do-luck bumper in the process, to which they offered me £200 towards fixing. I told them to get stuffed and that they had to replace the entire bumper with another genuine one (so I bought 2 from Sumo power - they owe me). It took 8 months and threats of solicitors etc before they finally had the bumper replaced and sprayed. I had to take the bumper off a few weeks ago to get to the engine and noticed that they'd stripped the nuts that are fibreglassed into the bumper, so you need to get into the bumper with pliars (not an easy task) and hold the back to loosen the screws. Nightmare. Take your car to a garage that specialises in supras and get it done right by professionals and not some jumped up tinkertoy mechanic (no offence to tinkertoy mechanics - promise)

I'm sure there's some professionals at Supra specialists out there who would quite happily damage and strip the nuts from your fibreglass front bumper and hand the keys back to you.... Wasn't so long ago every man and his dog was singing and dancing about Turbofit...... Truth is a bad experience can also be bad luck, as a result of your experience that Jemca may refuse the next guy in a Supra that turns up with a Do Luck bumper and he'll be havin a row with the bloke in the showroom.... guess you saved him a lot of agro. zap
As the title said, I took in my N/A to get a quote on some simple work. The main dealer informs me "we dont do imports" when i pushed him a bit more he claims "they have a different lay out and we dont know how to fix them" I told him a Mr clutch had already given me a qoute for the work again he refused. My only joy was getting him to admit in a packed show room that a local garage could and would work on a toyota car when toyota themselves didnt know how. Is this a standard toyota policy? or are my dealers mugging me off? Go back to the dealer and ask him for ' Toyota booklet, Imported Used Vehicles ' Part no :00193-03210, then get him to read back to you Toyota's policy on Imported Vehicles, then tell him you will be phoning Toyota GB Ltd 01737 363633, he will then service your vehicle. This policy applies even to franchises.

Then when im done i wont be getting anything serviced by them (Unless its free). All this could have been avoided by them being a little helpful and not so dam rude. Jimmer
Oo just seen this, i'm a tech for Toyota, as has been said before its not Toyota's policy not to work on imported vehicles, as technically most of them are! Its just the garages deciding not to take them on, Supras arent the problem its estma's (previa) and Malaysian Hilux's with after market import centre dodgy heater boxes and weird power curtains! We have no info on these and can be a nightmare to fix, get parts for ect (had one last week with a hilux!) its just easier to tell the people 'on the front' no imports! we seem to take on anything tho:rolleyes: With Supras the garages that didnt sell the car (like mine) werent allowed to work on them so didnt get the repiar manuals, now with the cars being 15 years old the info isnt availible on our online system. so unless one of the blokes knows about them there no more capable than any other garage. TBH mate i dont know why they wouldn't service your car as any good techy should be able to do it but with the labour rates its not really worth it, i would go on recomendations from other members. hope you get it sorted mate:)
