colsoop
There i was minding my own business tidying up some wires in my engine bay when i feel a pain in my neck. it felt like a little needle. I instinctively put my hand up to rub the area and there is a bloody big bee hanging out i flick the bugger off and then got some tweezers to pull his little stinger out. He must have been about ready to die and though he would inflict a bit of pain on someone before his demise I now have a big white lump on my neck on my day off as well

colsoop
Ive never been stung by a bee. Are they worse than wasp stings? No wasps are worse as they don't lose their little stinger so get you a few times before the end
Guest Chumpalot
thick question maybe but... do both wasps and bees die when they sting someone? For some reason I thought it was just bees.

Mrs H
Wasp stings are nasty, they don't die after the first one. One flew up my sleeve and stung me about three times in the armpit:( Anyone driving past the bus stop I was at must have thought I was mad, dancing round grabbing my armpit. It was sore for quite a few days as well:Pling: Vicki

Gerry
Was stung twice three weeks ago and two weeks ago.. We have a bees nest in the wood at the bottom of the garden, they get me when I go in to tip the grass cuttings. The last time it was on my arm and it hurt for a while and then itched like mad for nearly a week. The chemist said that each time you get stung the reaction gets worse (unsure of her info though). We also have a bees nest in our garden as well, but it's underneath some slabs and has big fluffy bees that completely ignoor me. I even put up a fence one foot away a few weeks ago and they just flew around buzzing - I quite like them. The ones in the wood are little buggers, don't buzz - just sting ! We also get horse flys as well, sneaky bas*ards that land on you quietly and then take a big bite out of you...

Sheefa
Little gits hey Col. I haven't been stung now for about 7 years, but I'm worried. Reason being is my mum is allergic, but she developed it later on in adulthood. She, like me, is also histamine high or 'Histelic'. It means if I have a tiny cut/spot/scratch/graze whatever my body goes pretty mental and my skin blotchy red from the release of histamine. Some sites also suggest that 15-20% of schizophrenics are probably histadelic! Scary I'm hoping I'm not allergic as if I do pass into the RAF, running round fior the JROC course in the Amazon Jungle is going to be quite an experience every time I get bitten! Good stuff to treat stings and bites, no, the BEST, is Tiger Balm. Think you can only get it in Thailand though.

juanchan
It's a common misconception that bees automatically die after stinging once. They have a more advanced sting than a wasp, with serrated outside edges. When it stings, the sting is locked into your skin. They usually die because you hit them away before they have chance to disengage the sting, as it were, ripping it from the rest of the bees body. Wasps have a more needle-like sting, which doesn't lock itself into the skin. Never been stung by a bee myself, but I've been stung on my arse by a wasp. Couldn't sit down for about 2 days comfortably!
