Good on you mate, a TV can be a very good learning tool but not when all that is played is shite soaps. I HAVE to watch them as the partner lives by them..............saddo

Konrad
What a damn good idea. I think I might dig out some Lovecraft... I refuse to watch TV from around 8 years already - all movies seen before in cinema or on DVD, I can read news on internet portal, so what's the point to splash money to numb myself with stupid soaps or other uttercrap. Only channel I'm missing is Discovery Science and National Geographic I'm reading tons of books tho, most of them SF or fantasy. I bow to your taste Mr. Animal Lovecraft is twisted mind, love his books too
Animal
Cheers mate. I agree, the documentary channels would be the only thing I'd watch. If you like Mythos stuff, have a look for 'Cold Print' by Ramsey Campbell - it's a book of short stories all based on the Cthulhu Mythos and there are some cracking ones in there. I read SF/fantasy too, mainly Stephen Donaldson, the Star Wars novels, Terry Pratchett, and a few others although I don't have a lot of time for reading at the moment. I tend to go through spells where I read loads, then everything gets hectic again and I stop.
Nick
I can't get BBC here and don't have time to watch TV anyway, not that I watched that crap when I did. The girlfriend sometimes watches local Japanese TV. Sunday there was a program featuring "fish boy" whom she tells me is famous and knows everything about fish. All I saw was some twat with a foam hat shaped like a cod, eating various steamed fish whilst getting very excited. The two girls next to him were making high pitched squealing noises too, but that's nothing unusual here. Very bizarre.

I agree with you but....my understanding is that if you own a tv you are meant to have a license even if you don't have an aerial. I think the only exception to this is if you have a tv with the tuner and i/f sections removed so it becomes a monitor rather than a tv.
