chilly
Why is steak so expensive and chicken isn't? A nice bit of steak is about a fiver, whereas a chicken cooked and flavoured from Morrisons is only £3. Why? You have to feed chickens etc, but cows just eat grass. A whole chicken will feed 3....but a steak is just 1 meal and you have to cook it. Its not right...
SupraStar 3000
Have you tried dragging a cow to the butchers shop? You can fit a chicken under each arm therefor easier to transport.

Steviekid
but cows just eat grass. Beef that ends up as steak very rarely just eats grass and most of that grass will be silage which has to be cut, lifted, covered then fed, all with very expensive machinery. Pete
A cooked and flavoured chicken - so it's been prepared and cooked ready for you? That'd be your answer. It's sad that a chickens life is so worthless really.

A sharp knife will do the trick...obviously give the cow a couple of paracetamol to numb the pain. But even pig meat is cheap, i know thay eat their own shit but when its slapped on the bbq its lovely. I think its farmers taking the piss out of mad cow and foot and mouth. I've never met a hard up farmer yet!!

dangerous brain
Maybe cos beef takes a couple of years to grow and chicken only takes 28 days. Also you can make a helluva lot more chickens in one go all year round not so with beefs. You wont see many poor farmers as they habitually kill themselves, highest suicide rate in the world is young male farmers.

Mind you a cow gives you alot more meat. But why is pig meat cheap as well?

JustGav
What is all this talk about cows.....meat comes in neat little packages from m&s, not cows. That is it, I'm going veggie........ But why is pig meat cheap as well? There isn't a part of pig that doesnt get eaten somewhere and they are the cheapest animal to feed up. For every lb of food you give them they put more weight on for that lb than any other animal in the world.
RedM
I had a venison burger the other day. Chuffing lovely it was. I've never seen a wild venison though. I wonder if they are dangerous. Like those veals!
