Saxo - headgasket, Opnions and questions

Im sure the head gasket is gone.

Basically when it starts you get a bubbling noise, like the water is moving through the system. Also when the car is idling no matter what the weather...I.e during the summer there is condensation coming out the exhaust.

Only thing is there is no mayo on the cap but then on checking there is hardly any oil (badly looked after!!)

Anyway Ive bleed the system twice so I dont think its air in the system before that one pops up.

Also the water is going down quickly too and If I take the rad cap off and start car an leave it idling for 20mins or so, a constant stream of little bubbles flows up.

To me this all points towards the head gasket, especially the condensation out of the exhaust.

How hard is it to change the head gasket on a saxo? Any one have any ideas of cost from a garage. It is a VTR.

thanks

if you leave the car to idle with the rad cap off then you WILL get a stream of coolant escape, when it starts expanding with heat.

short journeys will cause condensation in the exhaust system so might just be possible that the exhaust system has water in the baffles/silencer.

check for coolant leakage around raditor/water pump and rad cap. and try doing a compression test before pulling the head off;)

:yeahthat:

As a pointer saxos are a nightmare to bleed properly. Head gaskets are a doddle on saxos, the early models came with a paper gasket!
