Steviekid
I had 2GB of RAM in my computer (one stick) and it came up in Windows as 2GB. I recently put another 2GB stick in (exactly the same one) but the total RAM only comes up as 3.25GB. Is this normal?
Fifty
Normal If you are running 32-bit Windows, you must live with it. You will not ever see all 4GB of RAM you've paid for. - suprisingly a fact Rich
cheekymonkey
It's true. Much of the address space is reserved for PAE which is a away of addressing more than 4GB. Possibly. I found the most cost effective option was just to install 3GB, and you see all of that!

Steviekid
Cheers guys, at least I haven't been sold dodgy RAM!

So what would happen if I put another 4GB in? Will it still sit at under 4 in total? Do you get all of it if you're running 64 bit Windows? Been a while since I've looked at this though, the servers I deal with at work just cope with it no prob See here for some info on memory limits http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx
Big Mark
So what would happen if I put another 4GB in? Will it still sit at under 4 in total? Yes. No matter how much more you put in, what you see now is as much as you will ever see. Do you get all of it if you're running 64 bit Windows? My motherboard has another two slots and can support up to 8GB(not that I'm planning to put that much in at the moment!). I'm running Windows Vista. Cheers, I've never realised there was a limit before! Do I need any special hardware to run 64 bit Vista? I've got an E6600, striker extreme motherboard and a crappy X600 graphics card at the moment (that will be the next thing to get changed).
