Computer RAM question

:)

Normal If you are running 32-bit Windows, you must live with it. You will not ever see all 4GB of RAM you've paid for. - suprisingly a fact

So what would happen if I put another 4GB in? Will it still sit at under 4 in total? Do you get all of it if you're running 64 bit Windows?

I *think* 32bit XP supports up to 64gb with PAE, but most comsumer level motherboards wouldn't let you have more than 4gb.

Been a while since I've looked at this though, the servers I deal with at work just cope with it no prob :)

See here for some info on memory limits http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx

My motherboard has another two slots and can support up to 8GB(not that I'm planning to put that much in at the moment!). I'm running Windows Vista.

Yes. No matter how much more you put in, what you see now is as much as you will ever see.

Cheers, I've never realised there was a limit before! Do I need any special hardware to run 64 bit Vista? I've got an E6600, striker extreme motherboard and a crappy X600 graphics card at the moment (that will be the next thing to get changed). :)
