SexySallySupra
When first turning the car on in the morning I have a noise comming from one of the belts that spins round at the front of the engine, any ideas how I can put a stop to this sqeeky used conveyor belt sound
Ian C
Either get the belt replaced as it's stretched and worn, or squirt a bit of WD40 on it for a temporary measure -Ian
Guest slow dog
wd40 eats rubber like most chemicals do. it maybe your belt or check your bottom crank pully some of them tear off and the early sign is a squek on start up
Digsy
Yep, don't put WD40 anywhere near rubber. I "preserved" some brake parts with it recently and the seals changed size rather impressively. Luckily they were up for replacement anyway.
Ian C
Well, I did say get the belt changed And that WD40 was a temporary measure, not a be-all end-all fix to the problem. -Ian
dangerous brain
If ya do a search you will turn up a part number for a belt and also an argumentative thread about a partco style non toyota one that is vastly cheaper than the equivalent toyota belt. Guest slow dog
or you could just ring up toyota give your frame and engine number and get a proper one. please check the pully for play it sounds like it is nacked you cant be too carefull. dangerous brain
OEM toyota proper one circa £70 odd and bespoke good enough for a different car £11 now I am no rocket scientist but that makes sense to me.

dangerous brain
its an auxilliary drive belt that is for deffers not made by toyota themselves. The OEM one will not be made in any toyota factory. You don't mind using philips bulbs, garrets turbo's, blitz intercoolers so what difference is there to using an auxilliary belt? If you are that bothered buy two-if one snaps oh dear you have to fit another. If we were talking cam belts then yes I would understand to a degree. But I am betting that there are a lot of supra's about with non-OEM cambelts in them as well.
tbourner
Mine squeaks too. Dunno if you mean a loud squeak that goes after a few revs, or a continuous squeal for a few minutes as it warms up? IIRC from my thread on the same subject a lot of supras get it (the low volume one) and it's nothing to worry about. Push down on the belt at the top where it runs alongside the engine block, if the wheel half way down (the only one with the belt wrapped around the inside [if that makes sense]) moves inwards then it is OK, also check that the mark on this wheel matches up with the 3 dashes on the block next to it (you may have to clean a bit of dirt off to see the marks. If these two points are OK you're cool to keep the belt and put up with the noise - otherwise change it.

LeeT
you can get a Gates belt from halfrauds for £20. iirc they also make the belts for toyota so in theory you're getting the same part without the £50 toyota stamp
Gordon F
If it's squeaking it may not be tha belt at all. Could be coming from the power steering pump, where a little WD40 will help in the short term
dude
The Gates belt will be as good if not better than the OEM one , you can also buy a special belt dressing to stop squeling etc , the bearings also wear in the tensiner pulley , so much so that i allways keep 1 or 2 in stock at all times , also the cam belt tensioner pulleys are also getting worn out , see it more and more now .
