Torque converter removal

Hi guys,

I have the engine ready to pull, just the torque converter left to deal with.

Do I unbolt it and leave it in the box or take it out with the engine?

If I need to unbolt it, do you need a special tool? The bolts look slightly to the left of the starter motor opening...

Many thanks in advance

I've just realised that you're talking about removing the engine rather than the gearbox. Same drill, just ignore the bit about removing the gearbox but still unbolt the TC from the drive plate (the auto version of a flywheel) and leave the TC in the bellhousing.

Many thanks Jake.

What tool do you use for the job?

It has i think 6 bolts, all 14mm. the fly wheel has a 2mm lip making it hard to access with a ring spanner and the bolts are slightly covered by the bell housing, making it immpossible to get a socket and ratch on. If you see what i mean?

Thanks again

I should of been more clear, I had removed the cover when i made my last post. I was just saying, it was so dirty you couldnt even see the shape of plastic cover!

Its so good to get some straight forward advice from someone thats done the job before. My mate told me to take out bell housing bolts and move the engine 1" off the autobox, then undo the TC bolts through the gap between engine and box :idiot:

Many thanks once again
