juanchan
Yay! I'm officially a home owner Picked up the keys for my new flat today after work! Anyone wanna come and help me put up some curtain rails etc?! From now on all meets/socials will have to be round mine as the mortgage probably won't agree with running the Supra too often! Branners
isnt there about to be a global recession or something Well done, it must be so hard to get that first step on the property ladder now. I bought my first flat in 1994 for £39,000, its now going for around £140,000 and theres no way I could have afforded that then, even now it would be a struggle. Dont know how you youngsters do it JB
DannyW
Nice one, it's a good feeling isn't it. We should be completing our house purchase on Friday, the mrs is really excited but all i can think about is that fact that our repayments will be almost double what they are now! Another reason why i no longer own a supra

Dont know how you youngsters do it JB It's gonna be a bit tight for a year or two! Just have to cut back on the alcohol consumption. I did borrow nearly 5 times my salary. Just need to find me a lovely young lady, shack up and halve the bills in an instant! Nice one, it's a good feeling isn't it. Another reason why i no longer own a supra I'm on an interest only mortgage at the moment otherwise I would never have been able to afford to buy. It was about 45% more per month to go capital repayment on the same amount borrowed

It was about 45% more per month to go capital repayment on the same amount borrowed We've been doing the same for the last couple of years, was the only way we could afford to buy at the time. This time though we've borrowed a further £45k and gone straight on to capital repayments, we must be mental!

Dont know how you youngsters do it JB It's tough and scary. We have to commit to a minimum of £1,000 per month for the next 25 years I'm not quite there yet, but the bigger the deposit I can save, the better. I'm hoping that my pay will increase over the next two years such that I can change to a repayment plan when my 2 year fixed period finishes. I should also add that Branners, you're not the first person to say that about house prices are on the brink of a crash. If they do, then I guess I'll have to live in this new place until the market recovers

That and running the Supe would eat most of my monthly take home! :)Congratulations, well done. Exciting isnt it. I'm currently half way between denial and scared at the moment. I'm not mature enough to own a house/have a mortgage, surely?! And sh*t me, I owe a lot of money! From now on, the mortgage and Supe get priority. I can live on fresh air if necessary
Kieran
Congratulations mate! Welcome to a life of crippling debt and having to buy boring stuff like carpets rather than fun stuff like body kits and beer. Well worth it though.

It's gonna suck, but at least my money isn't being thrown into someone else's mortgage! On a more positive note, I'm a fan of the stock look, so no expensive Ab Flug kit plans here

On a more positive note, I'm a fan of the stock look, so no expensive Ab Flug kit plans here It does get easier. About 15 years ago, I'd owned my first house for about a year. I split with my g/f so had to pay the mortgage myself, and was paying a loan for a bike. I remember my food budget being very limited and I was living on Iceland economy beef burgers - god knows what was in them, but they cost about £1 for 50. These days, I have no mortgage, and can relax a bit about my finances - and just worry about the fact that I'm old.

juanchan
Definitely a big relief! So glad it's done and dusted! Does this mean I have to start focussing again at work and I can't use "house stuff is stressing me out" as an excuse to stare out the window and browse on here?! A rather scary quote from a conveyancer - on a thread titled "completed today".
