RedM
Never had this before so who do I call, how long do they take etc etc? Is it best to claim off the insurance? Need advice pronto as I'm covering at work and don't need this right now!
uk-rich
deffo get it through insurance, also insist they fit a original toyota screen. £50 is all you need to pay
RedM
Any idea if they'll do it today or am I going to have to wait? Live a bit out of the way so really need the car. Don't fancy risking a drive with an 8" crack in the centre of the screen!
uk-rich
give them a bell, doubt it would be same day though, auto glass did mine, (but even if they did do it today, you can't drive the car for hours untill the sealant goes off)
Burna
Also tell them you want the proper seal from Toyota mate. From what I've read some members have had a bit of trouble with the generic seal they sometimes use http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=37654&highlight=windscreen+seal Hope that helps. Pig
Who are you insured with? Some companies will wave your excess if you are insured with a decent company. Make sure you get a genuine put in
Havard
Cost me £40 for a genuine Toyota screen and Auto Windscreens came out the following day..... Claimed on my insurance and it doesn't affect your no claims either!! H.
ivan
Cost me £60 excess when I had mine replaced last year - insured with Sky. Mine was done through RAC/Glassline and has been fine. The facelift glass had to be imported though as Mr T had none. I had to wait 2 weeks or more.
RedM
Just rang and they need to get a quote as Ensign (with Sky as the broker) will only pay out up to £200 or £140 with me paying my £60 excess. Obviously, if it gets stupid then generic glass with OEM trim/seal.
RedM
Ignore the above. I rung Sky back and they had given me the wrong number. Rang Ensign claims directly and they are sorting me a fitting time with the parts I want and nothing extra to pay over the £60 excess.
Pixelfill
make sure you get the right glass Martin - as I recall there are different tint colours. I don't know whether that's the only difference Mike

I also need to ring Sky to put in a windscreen claim.
ivan
Don't bother ringing Sky about a replacement screen. Just check your policy book and ring the number there. You should find it says to call Glassline on 0800 716333
RedM
Ring Sky and ask for the Ensign direct claims line number. As Ensign didn't require a reference number I could PM the number if asked. I'm booked in for Thursday afternoon in Wakefield with an RAC/Autoglass centre. I found some 'bad things' about Glassline on the net so I'm happy not to be dealing with them. FWIW they wanted me to pay £60 excess and £137 for the difference between what they would cover and the glass I need! Ensign direct will do it all for £60. As for the glass, I was told that mine will be a faint blue tint with a green stripe at the top. The green is obvious but I've never really noticed the blue. If they don't get it right first time then I shan't be leaving until it's sorted.

Pabs
I had windscreen replaced twice, both insured with Ensign. I requested genuine glass both times (for my SEAT Leon) and had to wait just over 2 weeks for the glass to be available. MUCH better fit. I now have non-SEAT glass and it's fine, but i can certainly see/tell the difference, and i watched them fit it.
RedM
UPDATE: Turned up at RAC/Auto Windscreens at 1pm. Man let me inspect the new screen. Genuine Toyota and he said that he'd have been surprised if it hadn't been. He looked over the car, checking off points of damage etc and I watched him drive the car into the workshop. Went for a walk and, about 2 and a 1/2 hours later, it was done. Car was parked in exact same spot. Which is always nice. The screen 'looks' lovely. I say 'looks' because it's so pristine it's actually hard to see the glass. I was so pleased I even purchased some lovely new wipers to go with it. Seal looks a tad different but better than the old one. "Any negatives, Martin?" Yes, actually. Big Macs don't taste as good as I remember. Goodbye..... RedM
Top result Martin Did he bring the Toyota seal too? I assume it was a Toyota seal. It looks a little different like I said but I think it looks better than the old one. Apparently the full curing time is 21 days.

Havard
21 days! What sort of precautions do you have to take during that time? Yeah that!! The guy who did mine asked me not to wash the car for a couple of days?? He led me to believe that the sealant goes solid within a couple of hours?? I would have thought that driving would have been the biggest hazard!! H.
RedM
21 days! What sort of precautions do you have to take during that time? You can drive it in an hour but avoid jet washing for a week, maybe two.
