Do i remove this bit?

Looking at them, I would suggest leaving them in. They will spread the impact forces equally across the area rather than just the area where the nuts are. Unless the strut brace has the same pattern then it would still load up higher on the area where the studs are. Rather be safe than sorry and leave them on, and put the strut above it.

I had this conundrum with my Carbing strut brace. I ended up leaving them in, even though it meant the strut brace fouled on the thermal lining of the bonnet slightly. To my mind, these bits are spring steel (I think, anyway) and hence much more up to the job than the soft aluminium of the strut brace ends.

Whatever that job may be.

In the TRD strut brace instruction pamphlet it says to remove them, and to fit three washers underneath the brace. The most inboard washer is thinner than the others.

Exactly what I did (IIRC) as I had some rubber washers from me ol' mans toolbox - and I didn't even have a leaflet. :) TRD Chrome Strut Brace here.

Get them off and store them should they be needed again.

You put rubber washers under an item sold to purportedly stiffen up the shell :D That's comedy gold

They were only small ones and I don't think you've ever seen my car Ian!! The washers sat neatly into the gaps around the bolts anyway where the metal had been etched out so more than anything they were acting as filler!

And yes, that is what I did.
