ukApache
i'm planning on dropping a GTE into my SZ down the line (when £ will allow) and just wondered about which ECU I'll have to use if I keep my 5 speed m/t? Thanks
Scooter
i "think" the TTmanual ecu is fine for running with the 5 speed box.
dangerous brain
I can't see how the gearbox in any manual car will have any effect on the ecu that has no provision for gearbox input outputs. So yeah a standard manual TT ecu will be fine I'd have thought. You coud also get away with an auto tt's ecu if you know how to fudge the ecu into thinking its not in park (easy thing to do apparently)
ukApache
i "think" the TTmanual ecu is fine for running with the 5 speed box. thanks for the reply i thought this might be the case but then won't a 6spd m/t ecu be as hard to get hold of as the transmission itself?? I'm sure i read a few people on here have had the conversion and kept their 5spd because there wasn't any 6spds available at the time
JODY T
If you have the Manual loom on the engine, a Auto ecu will work straight away.. If you have the auto loom you will need to find the large grey plug that would have plugged into the auto box, If i remember corectly you have to join pin 5 and 6 (Black join to black/white trace together and the ecu will think its in park...) Isn't it meant to think its in any gear other than park as the car won't rev beyond the torque converter limit if the ecu thinks its in park??? I was always under the impression it was to be told that it was either in nuetral or 2?? I could be hugely wrong here having only owned a manual conversion and not having actually done a manual conversion.
ukApache
thanks for the replies i was thinking about doing this conversion myself to save a few ££. I just want to find out what im getting myself into! probably wont be until the end of the year anyway. if i do go with the pros, Jody you're the man

You need to make sure it thinks it is in P or N or otherwise the starter mortor will be inhibited. An auto ECU will also pull timing when it thinks its changing gear.
