Opinions on A/T box upgrades

Im ready to upgrade my stock A/T Box. Considering the BL auto with torque convertor upgrade too. Havnt considered manual conversion due to cost and extra labour required to make it all work. Im after a plug and play solution and the BL appears to fit the bill.

 

Ive hard it best used in auto mode rather than putting it through manual mode as its much weaker in that mode ??

 

Any thoughts and suggestions on is best to go for on a 2-2.5K budget ?

I heard the same about the BL box, which is annoying because I pretty much always shift manually on mine unless I'm "cruising" over a dull distance and want to chill out.

I'm sure there is someone in the UK who offers a value for money gearbox service but despite hunting the drag forums I still haven't found them, having said this with the exchange rate it's probably still cheaper to get stuff from the US.

 

A manual "upgrade" offers the easiest route to a robust gearbox but I really don't want to move to the Getrag unless I can avoid it, it's a hateful 'box in my experience of it, especially compared to the more modern big power offerings, it's more Countach than Murciélago.

 

How about a hi-stall and heaps more cooling on the standard item for now and see what happens?

Ta for the info Michael.

 

I might go for the torque convertor for now, to see what a difference they make. Ideally, would like a ride in a car of similar spec to mine, and one that has an uprated box.

 

Would be ideal if there is a box out their that alters the gear ratio to higher speeds.

jase i'm in lancs as well i could offer you a ride in mine with BL built auto and 3200 hi-stall if your not in a rush, my car will be off the road for a couple of weeks as i'm upgrading the brakes, if your box is not showing any signs of distress (slow upchange) go for a high stall they make a massive difference

Thats most kind of you to offer. We should meet up someplace. Please PM me with your location. Id also like your opinion on my autobox. Its shifting fine, and dosnt appear to be any delays when changing gears, but as Ive never been in anyone elses auto, I dont know whether its being a bit on the slow side or not.
