Knocking sound at high speed?

Hi all,

Ive just bought my first Supra! (Hoorah!) so you'll have to forgive me but im a supra newb! lol.

The cars great but for one thing, once i reach speeds of about 50 mph and about 80 mph a knocking starts coming from the passenger rear side. The noise is in line with the motion of the wheel, eg if i slow down then the noise slows as well, but it only comes when i reach 50 and then again at about 80!?!? not inbetween! Any ideas?!?!

the guy whoi bought it off said he hasnt used the car for so long (its done 2000 miles since nov 2002 according to the test sheets!) hes only done 200 miles since the last MOT. He took it to Kwikfit to get the wheels balanced for me before i picked it up and the tyre guy said it needed some new tyres cos three of them were egg shaped as its been stood for so long!?!?!

Anyway he put it down to that......

Bugger hope he didnt see me coming! Though i did knock him down another £250, a black aerotop, seems mint, drives lovely (apart from this noise!) for less than £5500, is this ok? it seemes so at the time! hahah

Any help you can give me guys would be great!

thanks!

Moved as it's a techie question, not an FAQ

Sounds like you've got to visually inspect that area with the wheel off, see if there is anything obvious. Check the wheel bearing is OK as well by jacking the car up and trying to rock the wheel in/out from the top.

its defo not the brakes (erm i think) as the knocking is in time with the wheel eg every time the whel does a full circle theres a not so if i slow a little the knocking slows down to, i imagine if its the brake pads it would be rather erratic? Im not 100% sure though.

Ive got a guy looking at it tomorrow, i hope he sorts it out!

Cheers guys!
