Kranz
Fcuk that's a complete nightmare incident. It could have so easily turned out to be most of them dead. Just goes to show.....LOOK AFTER YOUR TYRES! Any cuts, bulges or lumps just get them changed. A high speed blow out on a rear wheel is impossible to recover. Regarding crash protection of the Supe, I believe it is very good compared to most cars, however don't forget the incredible top speed these cars are capable of and the weight of them. These all play a major factor in impact damage. Speed is the main problem due to the amount of energy that has to be absorbed by the car's body before the impact reaches the passengers. The lower the speed the lower the energy. Weight is the second factor, as the weight multiplied by the speed gives the amount of energy that has to be dissipated. Force (energy)= mass x acceleration (actually deceleration in this case). The lower the mass (weight) and the lower the speed (affects the deceleration) the lower the force (and therefore the amount of energy to be dissipated). The Supe has a very good integral crash protection system that progressively dissipates energy through small body members into larger ones, effectively lowering the deceleration peaks by absorbing the forces slowly. However if something immoveable is hit at high speed on just one point, then this will almost certainly intrude into the passenger area. All cars are designed for frontal impact primarily, then rear impact, and then side impact from a deformable object (i.e. another car). Something like side impact with a lamp post it just isn't designed to absorb.

JohnA
Crickey, they are a lucky bunch. Yeah, rear-tyre blowouts are the worst. Most people think that losing a front tyre will be worse, but it's the rear ones that give you more grief. Bit like spinning or a RWD or FWD car. There are tyre places where they refuse to change your front tyres if the rears are shot. For liability reasons they will fit the two new tyres at the rear axle. Ian C
That cabin section held up fantastically well, the state of the rear on that I'm glad everyone got out of it OK. -Ian
