Just wondering if anyone on here knows what exactly the postal strike has effected? i send a set of lights to Italy via parcel force 4-5 day service, but it's been 6 days now and nothing has turned up :(

would parcel force be effected?

no parcelforce on a whole is not affected, only really where royal mail deliver/pick up parcels in remote locations where it may be affected.

with regards to your parcel, just lately alot of the european countries have really tightened up the customs and are checking everything, unfortunately the likes of the post office are not really up to speed with the goings on of customs but i would have thought it is either being held or been held and now past onto the delivery agents.

if you want pm me the delivery number and i will check for you :)

just as a note the worse countries at the moment are spain, switzerland and norway, if in you are to post anything abroad make sure you clearly put a discription on it and make the discription accurate and make sure you put as much delivery details as possible ie the full address, any phone numbers etc etc

Sack them, extreme I know but there are thousands of people on the dole that would be glad to work for the money they are on just so they feel worth while and not useless. Unless they are not striking over pay this time.

:D its about more than just money..40 000 job loses plus big changes in working practices ;)

The vast majority of people on the dole obviously don't want to do the work that the posties have to do for the money they're paid otherwise there wouldn't be any vacancies.

posties dont do bad, trust me and the hours are very good!!

there mainly striking about money and working conditions, basically there trying to update all the equipment and the workers dont like it!! stupid as it needs to but the unions are using it as a excuse to get more money but there simply isnt any more money to give them!!

as its been said its stupid as they still have to deliver all the post the following day anyway??

for the first time the company are being honest and saying there simply isnt any money to give to you or we stand to go under, its that serious so work with us and rebuild royal mail and make it a competitive business but they would rather strike and it will cost more jobs because of it :(

short sighted i'm afraid.

Not a postal worker myself but having spoken to my postie, the dispute isn't just about pay - although the Royal Mail want them to take a pay cut in real terms as the package is below inflation also they also want to cut their overtime and reduce their pensions.

On the service side, they want to make the first (well only...)delivery even later than it is now and make the last collection from post boxes etc earlier. There will also be reductions to collections at the weekends.

When the service deteriorates, its the posties that will get the blame/take the flack not the Royal Mail chief exec (who got a half million pound bonus last year). Sorry for the rant!
