Motec Ref/Sync error

Jake

Recommended Posts

When I start my car the Motec software logs a Ref/Sync error.

The error only occurs on startup.

The car doesn't start very well when hot. Takes a good few turns before it fires.

Ryan rang me just now and suggested I slightly increase the REF Mag Level from their current values:

RPM Volts
  0 0.3
500 0.5
1000 1.0

So I was wondering what settings the other Motec users on here have in their Ref Mag Levels and Sync Mag Sensor Levels?

Also I noticed that in the REF SYNC Setup the Ref / Sync Mode looks odd :

33? That's not right, is it?

Blimey Jake only just looked at the setup on your map.

I didn't look at those while tweaking yours and it was running fine.

But you really want to change those settings bud as that will be why your getting sync error as 33 is set for a IS300 and althought it will sync after a while due to cam sensor im sure that will be reason for bad start

Needs to be set as multi tooth and 12 for crank ref teeth

That was good timing Ryan, I've just got in from the pub and was saying on the way home to my mrs that I hoped you'd seen this thread.

I'll give Simon's settings a try tomorrow and see how it goes.

Many thanks to both you and Simon.

Well that was a disappointment.

I changed my Ref/Sync Mode (aka REF), Crank Ref Teeth (CRT) and Crank Index Position (CRIP) to the same as Simon's and the car started first time . . . but when I turned it off and tried to restart the engine it wouldn't. It did make massive plumes of black smoke though!

I put it back to my original settings and it's back to starting but not very well.

I tried a few combinations of Simon's REF, CRT and CRIP with my settings but none worked better than what I had in the first place.

Bummer :(

Sorry mate, can't really help as I don't really know how those settings work. Mine could be right or wrong, dunno! I think there's a ref/sync capture thing in the software that you're supposed to use while cranking the engine before you start it for the 1st time to figure out the right settings, but that's about all I know about it!

Im wondering if when Dan did setup up if he used the Sync capture to setup these setting as the ref / sync mode could be different for VVTI's. But im nearly 99% sure that all supra's had 12 ref teeth.

The tooth ratio settings wont matter what they are as they are only used for sync modes 3-9.

I will Speak to dave hopefully today Jake and see if he knows what the settings are for VVTI

Did you have a play with the ref mag levels jake with current setup?

Yup thanks for terry reminding me that vvti runs wasted spark, so crank ref teeth are right and so is crank index position. The only one I'm not sure about is the ref sync mode

I would suggest having a look at what I suggested first then jake or see if you can get over to mine one day and me and dave rowe can check it out

Leave it for mo as it is tho and having small play with mag levels. If you want tho jake i can come have a look sometime as got to come over your way to fit new map sensor on daryl car and remap
