Anyone do any hunting/professional shooting?

Hi all,

Experts in the above to reply only please.

I've always been a fan of spring rifles and have neglected the abilities of pre-charge/CO2 rifles. Why, I do not know, but I guess I favour the reliability of a mechanical bolt action rifle, single shot preferred.

I'm in the market for a new rifle though and have been thinking about making the upgrade. My budget is £300 - £400 but I do want a full 12lb legal limit rifle. This one crossed my mind and it has pretty good reviews.

I often go rabbit shooting in the fiels over the back but am looking to get into County arranged shooting events.

Any advice appreciated on the above refile selection. Any others that may take my interest please post up too.

Thanks ;)

Greg

Went clay shooting last weekend, got 26 birds out of 30 and a nice bruise on my shoulder to prove it :)

I would not really consider using a pellet gun to hunt an animal, at best you will just injure it with such a gun and cause it unnecessary pain and suffering. Maybe it is just me but pellet guns are for pansies... :p

Does nobody do any type of shooting then at all? Strange.

I did, but in the cadets, if I can boast, I was bloody good too :) - My school had an indoor .22 range and we regularly went to army ranges to fire the proper guns, starting with the Lee Enfield, the Cadet GP (Like the SA80 but bolt action), the SA80, LSW, GPMG, and the Browning Hi-Power, and I spent a few weekends with the Light Infantry firing many of the same :)

It's been a long time since I've fired, and I'd love to get back into it :)

Ive recently brought a gun power stealth .22caliber take down air riffle its very light and you can split it in 3 peaces so it fits in a laptop bag and its 12ft pound co2 powered and very accurate when you set the scope up right and its made of aircraft metal so its very strong and light at the same time i brought it in a kit form IE: gun, silencer, scope and mounts, tri pod and laptop bag the whole kit set me back £595 new but you can pick a mint second hand kit up for around the £350-£400 and it stops rabbits dead in its tracks Ive owned many co2 rifles and my stealth has to be the best so far by a mile and it looks the part as well

If I was in your position I would hang fire (pardon the pun) until you get in the mob chap. You may find yourself buying a whole different class of rifle for a more exclusive gun club. The rules for military shooting are a tad different than for civilians. The bigger the bang it makes the more fun it is (unless its a sniper rifle). One gat I really wish I got more than a wave around with is the barret 50 cal.

60mm rockets are a laugh but I bet rapiers are more fun :D

the barret light 50 isnt renowned for its quietness lol however I have seen one punch through an engine block bloody impressive. If anyone from the southwest is going hunting would love to tag a long the only thing I seem to be shooting these days is my bro and thats with paint

I used to do a lot of shooting and i moved from a spring to precharged and loved it. Much quieter and no kick. only problem is running out of air in the middle of a field. Hand pumps are bloody hard work and spare cylinders are expensive.

Thanks DB and co for the comments. Indeed DB, but I'm going to keep up my shooting with something a little more advanced at the moment ;)

Lui, looks like a damn class bit of kit matey but sadly out of my budget for what I intend to use it for. If situations change I'll let you know bud.

Thanks,

Greg

I used to do a bit of hunting when i was younger and living in Norfolk, a friend of mine was a game keeper.

I personally wouldn't buy a rifle online, you need to get hands on with the rifle as we all like different things.

You mention hunting, what is your prey, rabbits, rats squirrels etc, all these different quarry have different habitat and require different set ups.

I have always favoured the old school spring type rifles as you don't have to have any other kit and they are easier to maintain and a bit more robust if you like to get down and dirty :D.

Get yourself a copy of airgun magazine (if its still around, they always had good reviews in there)

When you get in to the RAf you can buy yourself a nice high powered rifle and just keep it in the armourey :)

Happy hunting ;)

I would be more worried about who was holding it than the gun itself :p

It would be a similar experience to the one I had yesterday with my nan. She convinced us that she could play cricket and she was batting. She can't see a thing. A 90 year old blind lady wielding a cricket bat is a scary experience!
